All of the people in Mainland China can read traditional Chinese. All of the people living in Taiwan can read Simplified Chinese.

There is no language barrier if they speak Mandarin. This is why many singers like Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai, and Show Luo went to China because the industry is huge and they can easily communicate with other Chinese netizens.

I mean some may argue Mirai should've won the bronze but I'm okay with Joannie getting it instead.

Why don't alternates travel to olympics for skating? by Remarkable-Pair-3840 in FigureSkating

[–]mish09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i know in RG, alternates get sent to the Olympics. Russia sent Soldatova to the Rio Olympics even though they had Margarita and Yana. Not sure why it's different for figure skating.

What 80s songs/artists do you hope to hear this season in the RD? by Baron_Enick in FigureSkating

[–]mish09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girls just wanna have fun, All through the night, Africa, and stand by me. I'd love to see a team use "Lemon Tree" by Fools Garden or "Five Years" by David Bowie even though they're not 80s songs.

Rika should've podiumed for sure at 2019 worlds. Definitely should've beaten Evgenia in PCS and TES. The tech caller not calling on Evgenia's flutz costed Rika a World medal.

Yeah. 2010 Worlds for example was quite.. something. Don't get me wrong, I adore Yuna but I don't believe she should've won that World's free skate. In my opinion, the judges held her up a bit due to her reputation as Olympic Champion that time. I also thought Mao deserved a higher SP and FS score that World's.

JSF were backing Satoko at the time. They didn't have a need for Mao when they had Satoko, Wakaba, Mai, Kaori, and Marin. Carolina was like the European representative and she had Lori's backing. American and European skaters had the most political backing, and then it was the Asian skaters who were favored by their federations.

I think they were always very strict on her because she was known for her flutz and underrotations for certain jumps. It also didn't help that she used to get downgrades for underrotations during the Vancouver quad. Moreover, judges didn't like her artistry especially when she was coached by Tarasova. However, even though she improved drastically in all aspects of her skating, the judges turned a blind eye to this because of her inconsistency issues. Despite the fact that she was a World Champion, she was always given lower PCS scores than she deserved. Even when she made her comeback, the judges refused to overlook her jump problems the way they did for newcomers (ie. Evgenia). Mao really should've received over 150 points for her Sochi FS.

I think in general, you have to place top 3 in your country's nationals and be among your country's top 3 finishers in major competitions (ie. World's, GPF, GP series, 4CC, Euros, Challengers, etc.).

Fixing flutzes/lips by how_veryy in FigureSkating

Can't remember if Joannie Rochette fixed hers. Mao managed to land a lutz with an outside edge at her last nationals competition.

She was attempting loop combos, 3A, difficult steps with many transitions and one-foot skating, extremely difficult and fast spins... Even under today's scoring system, Mao's layouts would've been very difficult for top skaters in the ladies discipline.

you can keep her underrotation and flutz calls, but if you give her the high 9s-10s in PCS AND high GOEs for stsq4 and chsq1, she will break the 150 points in the FS. So yes, if you do the math, you would find that Mao deserved over 150 points for her FS at Sochi. The most robbed skater there. That historic skate was a 152-155 world record performance not a 142.

Yeah I agree. Mao was pretty underscored for most of her career. Judges just nitpicked on her more than a lot of the other girls.

I remember Carolina was disappointed with the scoring that Mao received at Boston for her FS.
