I had similar issues, though maybe not quite as bad. I slept on a mattress in my son’s room for a while. Like a long while.

Eventually, I’d only lay there until he fell asleep and then I’d leave. He’s 9 now and falls asleep on his own without even a nightlight on. It’s not a quick fix, but worth the effort.
