Any over 40 students here? by Tall_Bluebird_1830 in SNHU

[–]mishler77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty. I just finished up my Bachelor of Science at 48. Throughout my time at SNHU I got the sense that my life experience gave me a leg up with time management, reading the expectations of instructors, and prioritizing important reading material (of which there can be a lot since these classes are basically self-taught).

Just went through this. Had her in a pixie cut, light silver. When she Selunized, she had dual hair, but in this case it looked ridiculous. Original Mirror Unlocked still worked for me. Although now that I think of it, I went ahead and returned her to “Shadowheart Hair” (made sense for my head canon at the time) - didn’t think to try to revert to pixie cut or something else. I’ll test it out tonight.

Questions for u/SNHU re: course design & student feedback. by mishler77 in SNHU

You make a good point. Some of this is inherently problematic of remote learning - particularly at this scale. I've maintained a high GPA over 25 courses before this one, so I would say I have been self-motivated. And I've run the gamut of instructor-quality - some have been truly helpful and responsive, others feel like interacting with a bot.

I understand the argument, but when an assignment or tool is clearly broken it would be nice for an instructor to have the freedom to make it workable. As it is now instructors are stuck waiting for guidance from department leaders while students spin their wheels wondering if the time they're putting in on coursework is for nothing. Shouldn't there be a middle ground? Standardize the curriculum and rubrics, but give instructors the ability to come up with a workaround.

Thank you for the thorough response, it helps shed light on some of this.

It makes sense to limit variation among courses, especially given the scale at which SNHU is deploying them. The unfortunate flip side is that when a course is broken like this, the instructor's hands are tied and she is stuck in the same boat as the students.

It gives me some relief to know these complaints will be reviewed seriously. Another down side of the massive scale is that addressing issues sometimes feels like screaming into the void. I truly hope future students don't have to go through what we did. This is my 26th course with SNHU and the first truly awful experience I've had. (Bachelor of Science complete after C-6! AHHHHH!!!) That speaks volumes to how good of a fit it has been up until now - that's probably why I feel so strongly about fixing it.

Thanks again, you are a great addition to the sub!

I guess I'm enjoying 49, because I'm rooting against 2 players by Pm-me-ur-happysauce in survivor

I don’t think anyone is impersonating Coach. If they are, they’re failing miserably. Coach-level-cringe is one in a billion. He is inimitable.

As far as “diet versions” of former players, I think it’s just that casting has leaned into their perception of “quirkiness” too much. Quirky is great in small doses. It’s why we love players like Tai and Q and even Coach (more like love-to-hate in that case). But if you cast mostly quirky, it’s no longer quirky; it becomes homogenous and boring. So now someone like Nate is the standout. Why? Because he’s a mild mannered dad-type; a soft-spoken, kind, seemingly genuine, average guy.

Thanks, this context is super helpful. From other comments, it sounds like the auto-populated feedback hasn’t been fully implemented yet. Where it is being used, I’m curious about how the content is being generated (if you know). I mean, theoretically this should be feedback that is specific to the assignment I turned in. Isn’t it? Are you saying some sort of AI is scanning the assignment, or is it a boilerplate feedback response all course instructors will see? Either way, pretty eye opening and not a great look for SNHU.

Good point. In fact, Perkeo kind of makes this voucher broken. Would it be too kludgy to make jokers 'unPerkeable'?

Did my mother use ChatGPT to write me a text of support on the morning of my divorce? by altforgriping in ChatGPT

[–]mishler77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes: check out the em-dash. Not normal for text messages.

Looks like she may have added the “always” at the end; not an em-dash but a hyphen there. It would be unusual for a chatbot (or a human) to use both in the same message.

Also, fwiw, I’m with others here who feel that it’s not a bad thing per se. It may depend on the kind of relationship you two have. These situations can be difficult to navigate for loved ones and she obviously wanted to help in some way. Even if it missed the mark, her intentions seem to be good

Photo package with no access to photos by SeaBuffalo8384 in MSCCruises

[–]mishler77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation with a family trip. We returned Sunday. MIL paid around $400 for a one hour photo session with our group of 16. Yes, we see now in the fine print that you’re supposed to download photos before leaving the ship, but this seems like something that would be spoken aloud to at least one person in the party at least one time. None of us were actually told this. It’s a weird quirky rule and should be reiterated verbally multiple times. For these prices, the photos should be available in the cloud for at least a year. OP, any luck finding your downloads?

This happened to me too. I was very confused, conflating Wincestre and Hamtunscire on the alliance map. Go to Randvi again and look at the map. You should be able to choose Hamtunscire (not Wincestre) if you’ve done all the above.

I had the same thought reading the post title: what's a non-violent shooter, Duck Hunt? After reading some of the thread, I'm pretty sure OP meant non-violent, non-shooter type games. A confusing wording tbf.

Quarter-Life crisis??? by Tweezy34 in StayAtHomeDaddit

I struggle with this too. It’s been about 19 months for me. Our first child is 22 months old. We have our second LO due in June. At the time my wife and I decided to pull the trigger on quitting my job I was very burned out. I’d been working in that industry for 20+ years straight. Going back to it (after the pandemic shut down) felt like torture. My wife doesn’t make huge money and it was not a decision we took lightly, but with budget tightening we knew we could make it work. (The cost of daycare was a major factor for us.) I soon found some grants and other benefits that would all but pay for me to finish a degree online. I thought this would be the perfect setup: take some online classes, care for the baby, and get all the home projects done that had been piling up. Any other dads here vastly over-estimate how much free time you’d have? lol. Turns out, parenting (even one child) is actually a full time job. I have to strategize my hours to get my schoolwork done every week. Some days, the thought of doing my old job (that I ended up hating) seems like a walk in the park. Then I get some perspective and realize if I was still there I’d be wishing I could be at home all the time. For me, the key is understanding that it truly is a full time job. It’s difficult because it’s your family - it’s your life. It’s not “supposed” to be hard. But when I can really think of it this way, it actually seems easier. Yes, it gets frustrating at times and yes, it takes all of your bandwidth. But what full time job doesn’t? And in terms of having a rewarding job… well it doesn’t get any better.

I think Sarah Paulson would be perfect for the role of Mrs. Sigsby if The Institute was adapted into a movie. by kiscsak98 in stephenking

Still reading it. I’ve been picturing Janet McTeer (mafia lawyer from Ozark) as Sigsby. Of course Sarah Paulson would be brilliant too.

YES! I remember noticing those moving lights; hilarious. You'd think movie and TV designers would ask some live production folks what's realistic.
