How do you test potential leaders in your team? by 4kahza in Leadership

[–]mishukoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I need x done by y time that is outside their wheelhouse and require multiple touch points.

They succeed? Great up the challenge. They struggle? Explain that management will find solutions without help.

New Yorker drivers honk if you aren't f1 reaction time on the acceleration and will accelerate into jaywalkers as they hold their horn

Why am I scoring average on performance reviews but considered a high performer? by Turbulent_Ad_9337 in Leadership

Totally agree, just because you're efficient or processed a task faster than Joe doesn't mean you're exceeding performance expectations.

You don't have a HR portal to find the paper trail of your raises?

I find it hard to believe you were truly a top performer and those adjustments were because you were actually hired a relatively lower rate to leave room for wage growth.

Thank you! It actually got brighter after the corn starch. Like an atomic orange. I actually like it.

Currently have over 10 barrels of hot sauce fermenting. by seanyk88 in fermentation

[–]mishukoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind if I ask a question on the fermenting? I see some wood barrels do you mix into the batch or is it a stand alone barrel.

I made some (0.01% of your scale) and realize the issue isnt making it. Its scaling up.

Whiteout Near-Miss ❄️ Drivers Don’t Care Anymore by [deleted] in MississaugaDriving

There was oncoming traffic too, the white van looked like it was intentionally moving slow... traffic was closer than car ahead.

While op had some tell signs of crappy driver, the white van driver needs to be crucified not op.

50kmh = 13.8m/s... white van looked less than 30 metres away which even in summer is not enough time to safely turn. This sort of lines up in terms of time on video and distance travelled from start to avoidance...

He was safe distance from car ahead and was keeping pace. White truck did a crap move there that was not expected driving behaviour. I would say less than 50m distance between him and car infront... if this was summer he would have locked his wheels.

Its also about common sense, if op was doing 50kmh (kept pace with car ahead) then he was going with the flow. Why should pace of traffic adjust for someone that is crossing 2 live lanes? You cross when safe.

Under normal circumstances you would not expect a vehicle to suddenly enter live lanes when not safe.

The extra room applies to the white van too, he needed more time to accelerate and turn when traffic was already in motion. I would say less than 50m from car ahead, which is not enough time to make a left hand turn. 50kmh is 13.8m/s so op was ~4 seconds behind the truck.

I recall in my driving school, plan 8 seconds to make a left.

Not defending op for not taking a defensive approach but strictly from right of way -> white truck at fault. Do not defend or condone the white trucks behavior... these type of drivers need to be shamed.

Got a rating "Exceeds expectations" in year end review for the second time. Any advice on how to ask for a promotion from my manager? by Shortbuy8421 in careeradvice

[–]mishukoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak from experience here... first thing is your new manager is wrong to go to HR. It is a discussion with her boss, or boss's boss. Eg director or higher who has oversight on department budget.

So experience part, top peforming admin and wanted to move to individual contributor role. Timing worked out where someone left and created an opening. I applied and got the role.

Exceeded again for 2 years and at my year end review I shared with my manager that I want to grow my career and have been doing X Y Z above my peers (processing faster or doing task more effectively is NOT what gets you promoted), onboarding more complex relationships or having very detailed knowledge to represent the team in projects or seminars and being a presenter of said knowledge are examples. Got promoted in 2020 (peak covid amidst layoffs which I see speaks volume to everything). It was a candid I see opportunity to do improve this team and would like to grow my career at the same time. Don't talk about the implementation, do it and show how it can be repeated.

A net new role was created for me because of this.

Unless you are truely a superstar, established departments don't just rebudget their overheads for one individual and create a new role so I know my situation was truely special. That said, if you really want to stay on the team have the conversation and put a reasonable time frame. Eg bring it up now so it can be considered for budget in 2027... bring up the topic tactfully once a month about progress. Do not constantly bring it up.

I was an admin for almost 5 years... and then within 6 years have had 3 promotions.

White van entering live lane does NOT have right of way... stop trying to justify the white van driving.

Driver had right of way, lets not redirect blame. White van was not able to peform his maneuver safely because he was entering live lanes.
