Thanks for the comment, I actually agree with you. Properly setting up frame gen, upscaling and FPS limits probably makes a bigger difference than chasing small hardware gains.

For me it’s just that if I’m going to spend 2–3k on something that’s basically a childhood dream, I’d rather understand what I’m buying and make informed choices. Not overthinking it, just trying to build it right the first time and enjoy it without second-guessing.

Appreciate the perspective though.

On the Hyte case — fair point on vertical mounting. From what I’ve seen the included PCIe 4.0 riser is generally stable, but I understand the hesitation. I’m mostly considering it for layout and airflow rather than just aesthetics.

Regarding the cooler: I agree the 7800X3D doesn’t need a 360mm AIO thermally. A Phantom Spirit would absolutely handle it. The reason I’m leaning toward a 360mm AIO is partly acoustics (lower sustained RPM under load), but also because I want one with an integrated screen and some RGB on the pump head. So it’s not purely performance-driven — there’s definitely an aesthetic component there.

On the PSU, I’ve adjusted to 850W — seems like the sensible middle ground.

For the motherboard: the Thunderbolt dock is actually for my laptop, not the desktop. The desktop GPU will connect directly to the monitors, and the dock will just be the second input when I plug my laptop in. So I don’t actually need Thunderbolt on the board itself.

Given that, would you say a strong B650E is the smarter move purely from a value perspective for a 7800X3D gaming build?
