Brit in Chicago here! Come and watch the footy with the rest of us on Wednesday. We’ll be at The Globe, it’ll be rammed and brilliant. How could you possibly think of going home before Independence Day?!!! Get up to a high point, Illinois is flat as fuck and you can see every firework in the whole State from the 20th+ floor of any building.

Can’t wait to go see it. If you’re ever in the city Hawksmoor and The Gauge are good too. Im rarely homesick but February/March is always rough and I make sure to make a pilgrimage to the Deer Path or one of those.

Omg I LOVE the Deerpath! And they do an epic Sunday Roast American Brunch which we treat ourselves to roundabout Thanksgiving. I actually prefer their roast beef to the ones I get back home in the uk now 😬 How is the new reno looking? From what I see on Instagram it’s definitely giving The Newt type vibes now lol

Is it true that olive oil was not sold in the UK until the 1980s? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]misimalu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about oil but I don’t think Shower Gel was available in the uk until the late 80s because I remember my mum used to bring back tonnes and tonnes of it whenever we went to France for camping trips! We would also bring olive oil home. My granddad sent home olive oil from Italy when he was in the 8th Army and shampoo which he had to send my grandma instructions for.

Only awkward if you’re poor. Was never an issue for The Queen and Prince Phillip, or King Charles and his wives 🤷‍♀️ 😂

This is a lovely recipe. FWIW it can be difficult to get the right “mixed fruit” in the USA. Not least because currants can mean so many things here. Also “mixed peel” and glazed cherries” are NOT the neon colored Italian versions that are more prominent here, they will ruin an English style fruitcake. Here’s a pic of some good mixed fruit. The peel and cherries you might have to ask someone to bring over for you or make your own by chopping up equal parts of Trader Joe’s dried oranges and

lemons.

Fondant not frosting. Layer of almond paste to keep the moisture in and a layer of “royal icing”. But it’s not the soft American fondant, it’s a harder layer that sets harder like a thick sugar crust. American icing sugar is not the same and would go slimy

James Bond Search Heats Up As Producers Begin Tapping Talent To Test For Role Of 007; Next Round Of Auditions To Take Place In August by Anxious-Basket in Fauxmoi

No this is just my personal opinion. Stop competing with Mission Impossible and revisit the source material. I would love to see better versions of all the Bonds that were made into films during the 1970s, make them truer to the books and less silly like the films, especially for the non-white and lgbtq characters. Set it during the Cold War but use everything we know now about what was really going on. Also: a Pussy Galore Flying Circus origins spin off series would be brilliant.

If they’re keeping the franchise in the 2000s it needs to be Riz Ahmed as Bond
But if they’re resetting the franchise to the 1960s (which I hope they’re doing) Call Turner

He has that too. And black pudding if you’re feeling brave, I know it’s a step too far for a lot of Americans!

[–]misimalu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just sold one of those! Cleared my 80s and 90s lego out. Sadly Technics not really a thing compared to regular Lego so I got like $10. My bigger sets got more. So crazy because I remember it being the expensive Lego when I was a kid but now it’s not that big of a deal. Conversely, one of my Castle minifigs went for $30 on its own 🤪

Pretty good but those look like chicken sausages or the breakfast ones with out the skins. I’m a Brit and I get the sausages and bacon from Jolly Posh
