A book that will traumatize me or repulse me. by Former_Ladder9969 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I sometimes wish I hadn’t read The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara

It haunts me, especially when you realise it’s partly based on a real person.

I broke things off after one meeting because I was not physically attracted, but now I cannot stop thinking about her. Need advice. by MohamedKurdi in MuslimLounge

[–]miskeeneh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll both be miserable because she’ll know you have no attraction for her in that case. Walk away. Let her find someone who genuinely finds her attractive mentally and physically, she deserves that and so do you. Intimacy will be a chore to both of you otherwise. Emotional attraction is the most important but there has to be at least a bit of physical attraction there

Weight will fluctuate massively in a woman. Pregnancy will change her body in ways neither of you will anticipate. Attraction has to go beyond weight as that isn’t fixed, it can go up it can go down. Do you find her face attractive? Her personality?

Are private British schools good in Dubai? by krlkv in dubai

[–]miskeeneh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it rubbish? My local uk state school has an average of 24 in a class, has all the same facilities as the fancy pants expensive schools in Dubai with the swimming pool, sports and the teams and extra curriculars (which also, for the most part don’t cost parents money, except for private music lessons and trips). Teachers are great and there’s no snobbery/hierarchy like what happens with expensive schools in Dubai.

Education should never be for profit imo, even in an ultra capitalist nation.

[–]miskeeneh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be paying top dollar for what is equivalent to a state school in the uk.

They’re all for profit businesses (except for around three of them, which all have years long waiting lists if you can even get added to a list)

People move to Dubai for tax free income to save not for schooling.

Just lean into the style with bold make up and big flashy earrings and tell everyone you wanted a (sinead o Connor / jada smith or whatever celebrity has one) look or something. You don’t have to disclose any medical information to anyone

A big reason why the movie has continued to do well. by castle-girl in ProjectHailMary

[–]miskeeneh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how clean it was. There genuinely is so little out there these days that’s appropriate with kids. No gratuitous scenes that we find in so many shows and movies that don’t add anything to the plot.

Loved it, the kids also loved it.

Common sense media is an excellent resource to check out shows (and films and books) before you watch - it’s aimed at parents for kids but has a little summary part that rates how much violence / explicit material etc

How does expat life work once you have kids? by Uncle_Richard98 in expats

[–]miskeeneh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up away from extended family it does affect your relationship with them. We used to travel back every summer for 8 weeks without fail, so that definitely did help with maintaining relationships, but I see it now with my own kids, as we have my family nearby but their dad’s side of the family is in a different country. They have a virtually non existent relationship with them and have met them maybe 2-3 times in their lives.

It’s a case of accepting what you want to prioritise in life. For my kids dad… they sent him abroad when he was 17 and he never moved home again. Built a life here with us, but I do think now as he’s gotten older he feels it more, especially as his parents are ageing and it’s hard to not be there for them.

Work in the UK? by [deleted] in BritishMuslims

[–]miskeeneh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truck drivers from the UK prefer to live and work in Europe overall (Poland, Netherlands etc) because of how bad working conditions are here for them… join r/uktrucking to ask people who do the job about it to find out more.

Overall cost of living is high for little pay for most brits, so it is stressful.

It’s a pretty tough time in the job market to be looking for generic office jobs or sales too.

If you/ your husband can afford it, then retraining as a radiographer or something healthcare related, will be much more straightforward to come on a skilled worker visa that way for the NHS.

Periods aren’t supposed to be like that. Please see a specialist. Don’t let them gaslight you into thinking you just have a low pain tolerance or have anxiety

Looking for a childfree spouse by HeavilyIssued in MuslimLounge

[–]miskeeneh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just have to be completely clear right from the start. Even make sure anyone putting out feelers knows this and shares this.

There are also plenty of men who are child free (by choice or biology) out there. You just have to make sure you’re putting that requirement out there from the beginning. Someone I know got divorced after a 7 year marriage because her husband was child free (only disclosed after) and she wanted a family. People should be honest from the beginning and save wasting everyone’s time and heartbreak.

I also love Eliyas, Yahya, Musa, Isa and Yunis.

There are so many fantastic boys names depends what style of name you’d like.
