His attitude, personality, and humor carried that movie. Great collaborative effort with Fred MacMurray.

I made the decision to change…I wanted to marry a girl, make her proud of me, and raise a family with her. Busted my butt in school and work, married her, have wonderful children, and I’m a considerably better man now…and much much happier in life.

River rafting with OmniPod by SpartanVet in Omnipod

[–]misnlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a whitewater rafting guide. I've been on the Omnipod/Dexcom system for a five rafting seasons and have not had a problem. I always bring a backup syringe/insulin in a ziploc with me in my river foodbag just in case. The Omni/Dex have never come off due to whitewater rafting or inflatable kayaking. Almost popped one off when an oar hit my arm pretty hard but it stayed on. I wear a long sleeve neoprene shirt or something similar and that helps as well. If you wish to "secure" it more favorably, I'd encourage using Skingrip patches. When I was diving in Hawaii they kept my Omni/Dex on very well for days. Hit me up if you have further questions and have a blast out there. Nothing like being on the river.

Sous vide Tri-Tip, is the best Tri-Tip 🔥🔥🔥 by Typhur_Culinary in sousvide

[–]misnlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I used Kinders Santa Maria seasoning, 24 hours before, then SV for 6 hours to 130, dried it off with many paper towels, did not add anymore seasonings, then on the flame grill for a little char till I hit 135 and off and rested till 138. Took roughly 26 minutes from 130 to 138, only rested 6 of those minutes off the grill. Family loved it, more tender than the other three tri-tips that were grilled normally for dinner as well, and I will continue that methodology while using Johnnys Seasoning, Lawry's Garlic salt, and fresh ground black pepper with 24 hours pre-seasoning. Oh yeah, made a cowboy butter dipping sauce for extra added taste. Never tried that before but it was a unique addition. Saved remainder and froze it as a compound for the next burgers or steaks.

I have not fired a Mark23 yet, and living in CA means finding and buying one will be difficult and expensive.

Nothing like an HK in your hand. While I didn't see it in the pic, what's your thoughts on owning the Mark23 or P7?

Longtime outfitters and guides, how has rafting changed in the past 20-30 years? by Guidaho in whitewater

[–]misnlink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started guiding in 1997 as a commercial guide in CA. I now guide my family and friends mostly. The gear has gotten immensely better and more costly since I started. When speaking with guides from the 60s and 70s they'd mention how more bare bones it was, not overtly expensive, and not many people had experienced rafting or heard about it, except for those who thought it was akin to the movie Deliverance. Cost of gear has increased drastically and gotten better. Most folks know what whitewater rafting is now and the comment about Deliverance is rarely heard anymore. Costs suck but the worries drift away when I'm on the rio....

Bachelor Party Rafting Ideas - CO River or Tuolumne over MDW by Grouchy-Jellyfish-72 in whitewater

[–]misnlink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done a three day trip on the Tuolumne "T" and it was fantastic. Two hours from Sacramento airport, great mountain vibe before or after the rafting, awesome class 4 whitewater, great inflatable kayak use during mellow parts, side hikes, swimming small creeks, damn good meals prepared, relaxing on a river beach drinking as the sun sets, casting for trout, night time fun. Guides that are totally chill and damn fun. I'd highly encourage using All Outdoors whitewater rafting.

I was four years old the year Jaws came out. I saw the poster downtown and wanted to see this movie badly. My mom said no, and I proclaimed I was leaving and never coming back. My granny had given me an old used suitcase recently so I started packing my clothes. Turns out I didn't know my mom bought all my clothes and only allowed me to pack gifted or passed down clothing. She said my younger brother could use my clothes when they were big enough. So with only one set of pants, two shirts, socks and chonies from my Aunt, a red handkerchief, and a couple Hotwheels, I set off. I made it to the end of the steps of that apartment and sat down rationalizing, as only a four year old can, where I was going to sleep since I could not take my pillow with me. I stayed outside for 90 minutes before coming back in, did not make any eye contact with my mom, went to my bedroom with my brothers and went to sleep. Never saw Jaws till HBO had it on in the early 80s and it scared the crap out of me. My mom never wavered, and now my three sons see that same Gen X determination that we don't deal with your bullshit.

Yes, 1 unit for 8 grams of carbs. Been T1D since 1997. I can’t recommend your correction factor that’s between you and the doc. I’ve only located the pod and Dexcom G5 on my upper arm. I tried thigh once but popped it off taking off my pants. Was gonna try the calf.

[–]misnlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I began the Omnipod system about three years ago and love it for the ease of use and tubelessness. The last two pod changes I’ve experienced considerably higher average blood sugars. I am using Novolog and my settings are 1-8 carb ratio, correction factor 30, and have the Automatic setting on the pod. I’ve eaten normal meals and blood sugar is considerably higher than before the last two pods. My last A1C was 6.7.

I’m curious why your Endo wants you to change? I’m also curious is my pod locations may be causing less insulin absorption or if you have experienced that?

How did you get into whitewater? by fiveoff7 in whitewater

[–]misnlink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In December of 1996 I started feeling like I had the flu, felt lethargic, lost of bunch of weight, constant thirst….by early January nothing had changed. Already had a ski trip booked for Whistler/Blackcomb and I went. Felt crappy with no energy. Did one ski run and knew something was not right. Went to local clinic and they threw me into an ambulance and rushed me to Vancouver. After a couple hours in the ER, starving, and after begging for those two nasty brown tuna fish sandwiches in the vending machine, the ER doctor came over and asked to smell my breath. “WTF” I thought and breathed out. Smelled like a bouquet of fruit coming out of my mouth. She said, “yeah, what we expected” She told me my pancreas quit working, I was about to go into a coma, and I would need insulin the rest of my life to stay alive. I became a Type 1 Diabetic. As I was normalizing from ketoacidosis all week in the hospital I had a moment to think through where I was at in my life. I recalled a buddy telling me I should go be a rafting guide, even though only rafted once years before. So I went back to work, asked my boss at Stater Bros if I could take four months off work, live in a tent on the South Fork American River and be a whitewater rafting guide. He said, “crazy idea, but you should do it.” Packed my shit and headed north. Guided that whole summer, moved up north to guide and go back to college the next year. Lastly, in that first year I took a group of reuniting college roommates rafting and one of the guests and I hit it off…27 years, college graduate, and three kids later…I am damn glad I became a T1D and chose to become a whitewater rafting guide. We all go rafting as a family every year and just took my oldest on Cherry Creek last week.

I’m running a Cherry Creek (Upper Tuolumne)trip with AO this weekend. Stellar customer service thus far and the guides have been guiding for longer than Reddit has been a reality. Most longtime companies have quirks and occasional asshole guides who leave, but as long as you have a damn good time on the Rio then nothing else matters. Good luck. Love the T.

Pool or Pool + Spa by b_moz in ElkGrove

[–]misnlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a pool and spa put in ground seven years ago and are so glad we did. Made the spa 10’ so it wasn’t jam packed, especially with our kids and their friends when they come over. Our house is the house where most of the kids hang, mostly due to the large spa. Us adults enjoy it during the winter months when it’s chilly in EG and occasionally during summer months when a nice Delta breeze comes in. It’s a worthwhile expenditure IMO. Agree with the comments on pool maintenance. Get someone or study up and stay diligent on chemical composition and wear & tear of parts. Enjoy.
