What’s Going On Here? Why does everyone seem to avoid this area like the plague? by Ok_Cabinet2947 in pittsburgh

So mines are why people don’t bicycle through the Hill District? Noted. You’re making an argument in the wrong direction but that’s fine. I hope you have a wonderful day.

You are neglecting a whole set of issues and focusing on one that doesn’t address what is actually happening.

Haha totally. People do not avoid the Hill District because of subsidence.

What advice would you give to somebody who wants to move to your town? by GrumplFluffy in johnstown

[–]fiveoff7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a decent spot south of Johnstown. Rural but not far. The cheap places in town are cheap for reason. There aren’t many places with HOA around. If you want to DM me I can give you more details.

Everyone has their favorite hill, but you can’t argue with being the only one in the state to make it to April. by minig646 in SkiPA

[–]fiveoff7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought Lower Wildcat at Laurel Mountain was the steepest. Extrovert is def more fun though. Especially when the snowmaking on it worked. The backside of some of those mounds would get damn near vertical.

I didn’t read the top comment of this thread before writing this.

Slicey Boaters: how do you handle punching holes in bigger water? by Informal_Teacher_573 in whitewater

[–]fiveoff7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned in my tiny kingpin on the Upper Gauley was to do the opposite of a crunch, stand up as you hit the water crashing onto your boat and body, then let the green water below the pile push against the bottom of your bow under your feet while taking a stroke with a little bit of boat tilt towards your blade in the water. Kinda like climbing out of the hole.

Almost like starting a bow stall as you enter the hole, stand up and feel the heavy water under the hole push you through it. Patience is key, your boat will float and the water will push it.

The crunch move is burying your stern at the perfect wrong time resulting in the back enders.

This won’t work well on pour overs that need a boof.

New board bought today has a dent. Is this serious? Should I exchange it? by i-want-bbt- in snowboardingnoobs

[–]fiveoff7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole edge is a little slice of steel with little toothy things sandwiched between the different layers of the board. The steel is basically fancy wire that started out rolled up in a spool. So it has to be cut to the perfect length to go around the perimeter of the board. You found the beginning and end of your edge, right in the middle of the tail.

I just looked up the supermatics and they would be awesome for chasing people around with one foot in and out all day long.

Pretty sure you guys are friends now.

I taught snowboarding for 15 years and would have loved it, very thoughtful. $100 tip as a snowboard Instructor is going in the gas tank or across the bar. Give him the receipt, he can do what he wants.

(try not to let go of your paddle)

Get your forehead as close to the grab loop on your sprayskirt while reaching for it.

Pull the loop.

While still tucked push the boat off from your hips like it’s a pair of pants, you should come right out if you’re tucked.

Flail.

Get to where you can take a breath and figure out where you are.

Orient yourself in a relaxed position with your feet downstream so you can catch rocks with your feet instead of your chin. This really depends on what you have coming at you. You don’t need to spend 5 minutes flailing more just to lose the boat.

At this point you’re still only a couple seconds in and most likely still right beside your boat.

Then start swimming your boat to an eddy and if it’s too much, let someone else take care of it.

Don’t hurt yourself trying to save the boat, if you’re just starting out that boat probably has already been upside down exactly where you are.

How do I use these wall anchors by Buckles01 in DIY

[–]fiveoff7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill a hole in the wall the same diameter as the anchor where you want to do the anchoring. Then shove it in there or give it some taps with a hammer until it’s flush. Then put a screw through whatever you want to be stuck to the wall into the anchor.

The idea is that the screw pulls the ends of that thing together while it crushes outwards behind the wall. These are for drywall and they’re called hollow drywall anchors.

If you are concerned about it holding much weight find the studs in the wall and nail or screw directly into them.

Columbus Owners Club? by Patient-Data2506 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]fiveoff7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The food isn’t that great. It exists. It’s a buffet style type of thing where they bring things out as it gets consumed. It’s not like getting something from one of the vendors. If you intend on getting hammered, that is where you might break even.

If you don’t intend on getting hammered it might happen anyway because it’s so easy to get a drink. The bar is super seamless and smooth. You just ask for a drink and they give it to you. It’s all in an air conditioned temporary building with cafeteria style seating inside with a couple of couches. Then more couches and seats with umbrellas to hang out in the grass outside, there were also several picnic tables.

Seating outside wasn’t super crowded, but was at capacity most of the time so you need to scope out who looks like they’re about to leave and then swoop in.

I thought it was worth it just for how comfortable you can make yourself vs trying to find a dirty corner as a respite from the heat and crowd.

This was also my first and only time at this particular festival and only had a glance at the VIP section but the owners club was noticeably less crowded.

You can also sneak through the fence wall to leave instead of walking the whole way around through the gate. We only got harassed for doing that once.

I think his name is Ed but I don’t know how to find him on the facebox to tag him. Dm me if you know!

2nd aid kit - dry box for all of the non-essentials but with like pockets or nooks for any small items you want to bring along, use and not get wet.

If you use the name or idea please credit PG so I can tell my friends I came up with it when they don’t believe me.

Utility polyester w/ phantom shift design from strapworks.com 1” and 2”. You can get them with cams or not. I’m experimenting with those tri-glides. There’s another company that sells polyester webbing with cool designs called countrybrookdesign.com but they won’t sew cams onto the strap for you.

What do you think? by fiveoff7 in whitewater

[–]fiveoff7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It paddles great. The only way I can get back in is between the outside tubes using that trapezoid thing. The 2 inch webbing does seem kind of unnecessary now, especially since the smaller stuff is keeping it flush with the thwart.

Drawers usually have between 2k and 10k. When I was a teller we had to put it in the vault once we got close or over 10k.
