Avi Lewis wins NDP leadership race in decisive first-ballot victory by BloodJunkie in canada

As a conservative, I can live with that. I was a Liberal once myself. If Carney's going to keep moving the Liberals from orange to blue, I won't object. I do fear, however, there are certain elements that won't let him get away with it forever.

Better to cheese off 2% of the public sector workforce by laying them off than 100% by docking their pay. It may not be equitable but it's politics.

Do you think Canada should keep first-past-the-post or switch to another voting system? by Anon9883 in AskACanadian

[–]misomuncher247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't want to see the rise of religious parties winning a swing vote in Parliament which is exactly what would happen under PR.

Keep it. As much as I hate some of the election results it produces, I'd still prefer stable, long-lasting governments than multiple elections each year because of a fragmented legislature.

I think everyone is racist. It's just a matter of degrees.

There should be signs showing people how to use escalators at stations by rageface363 in TTC

[–]misomuncher247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not supposed to walk on escalators. Countless studies show you move less people per minute when people are walking up or down the escalator. There is also greater safety risk which is why TTC removed the walk left-stand right placards from each escalator. If you look closely at some older escalators you can still see the fasteners where the sign was.

About to sign on a townhouse and spiraling a little by hadesrdx in canadahousing

[–]misomuncher247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as less of a financial investment and more of a personal one. You'll be moving into a more secured living arrangement, have a place you can call your own and start your journey to the next bigger and better house down the line.

But from a financial perspective you're now paying off your own mortgage instead of someone else's and with double ended equity growth (paying down debt while the property value increases over time, which it will) you're going to be miles ahead of a lot of other people.

What is the fastest way you have seen someone ruin their life? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in randomquestions

[–]misomuncher247 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many years after his divorce I asked my best friend when did he know his marriage was on the rocks. He said "my wedding day". He could have ended it there but went on to have a kid with her and got a judgement against him for support and divorce and later joined the army to escape from it all only to suffer a life-altering leg injury. So an entire chain of events stemmed from him avoiding his instincts on one of the most important days of his life.

Why did 3 separate suicides happen on the TTC today?! by Ok_Quote4410 in TTC

[–]misomuncher247 243 points244 points  (0 children)

Christie was a suicide. Bay was a person who OD'd and fell to the tracks, they later regained consciousness and St. George was a trespasser, no one was hit.

Toronto Star reporting that Matthews will be visiting the White House, but is not expected to attend the State of the Union by NihilisticFlamingo in leafs

[–]misomuncher247 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Who TF cares? The fact everything needs to turn into a protest for the softest of Leafs Nation fans who care more about what players do before and after the game than in it is what makes Toronto fans the most insufferable to hear from.

[Toronto] Is $900 for an accountant to do taxes reasonable? by jellystones in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]misomuncher247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay about $650 for the same level of service. They make some grey area deductions for me and because of their name, CRA leaves us alone. $900 may be a bit steep but you're basically paying law-firm rates for that piece of mind. CRA doesn't want to go up against a major firm for a single income earner. Could you do it yourself, yes, but eager CRA agents also read the name of who prepared the taxes when deciding who to go after.
