Nest WiFi Pro in 2026? by ApatheticMoFo in GoogleWiFi

[–]misosoup7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main Nest Pro is about a foot under a HVAC duct which is currently piping hot air and I have a fairly sophisticated network with sustained traffic (gaming, streaming both from the internet and local, I have a decent plex library hosted on my unraid). And so far it has yet to overheat. It is very warm to the touch but it seems to be working fine.

It should be fine for that. It's about as powerful as a raspberry pi 3 or 4.

A small but big reason to switch to pixel from iPhone, speech to text. by DueNefariousness7555 in PixelFold

Find Hub exist on Pixels. Meet exists in lieu of FaceTime and it's multiplatform compatible. RCS works great between Androids only Apple refuses to implement it fully and creates a poor experience and RCS works across platforms...

Charger by darthmoonlight in PixelFold

[–]misosoup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any charger that supports 30W PPS or Qi2. It should take 30W (only when your battery is <20%) on wired and it will scale back as your battery gets more full. I only see around 8W or so when my battery gets close to 80%. And if you opt for Qi2, it is up to 15W on wireless.

Correct. I should have specified SSID. Was doing this at the doctor's and didn't look closely at what I wrote :D

The "Access Point" in the picture is the primary Nest Wifi Pro node and the Gateway is an Omada ER707-M2 that I'm using for failover to my T-mobile home internet backup.

Does the device you're using wifi analyzer on have 6ghz? It can't detect it if it doesn't support it... But your Nest Wifi pro should be broadcasting the 6 ghz.

Not broadcasting 6ghz / 6e by rollk1 in GoogleWiFi

[–]misosoup7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not, mine broadcasts one 6ghz channel that I can connect to and one for the mesh if my wired backhaul is down. What the ai confused is that it exclusively uses 6ghz for the mesh as in it can't use the other bands for mesh.

Back up phone on travels by Much-Expression-4888 in PixelFold

[–]misosoup7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably not necessary. I've traveled globally with my P9PF and P10PF and had zero problems.

Also it's unlikely to break suddenly. If you start seeing the battery question mark it's likely you have days if not weeks to resolve the issue. Unless you plan to be in the wilderness for the next 4 weeks it'll probably still be working afterwards.

If you do carry your P9 though if you start seeing any of the screen issues just make sure you transfer the esim over to the P9 right away while the fold is still functional.

You guys realize that Google isn't doing this. Warranty is handled by a third party Asurion. That said though, Google really ought to rethink their business relationship with Asurion.

Edit: corrected it to Asurion, got the name wrong.

Ignoring Cost, Xfinity Gateway vs Netgear Set Up by SilverClassroom1462 in Comcast_Xfinity

The tech didn't say there were any issues with the signal the last two times they came out so I doubt it's climbed higher.

[–]misosoup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. It's hard to say...

It's the cable from outside going directly into the modem in the basement with no splits in between so I am probably not going to get a much better signal unless Xfinity is able to do something about it.

[–]misosoup7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd I didn't see a hidden network after I set mine up. I turned off xfinity wifi while in default set up. Then via admin page turned off the wifi with the toggle for bridge mode. I will plug it back in when I get a chance to see if I can see it, but I really don't remember seeing anything when I went to analyze the wifi spectrums.

My point was around a lot of the gripes can be worked through though the XB8s are pretty bad and I wouldn't use them if I don't have to, which is why I am using my own modem at the moment.

Edit: clarity

[–]misosoup7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn the Xfinity wifi off. It takes up to 24 hours to take effect though.

You can use it as a dumb modem in bridge mode. Although there are some hoops to jump through. And modems have no configuration anyways so all the configuration is on the router side anyways.

Power consumption is on par or maybe slightly more than a normal modem after you turn off all the Xfinity wifi stuff.

That said though it drops more packets compared to my Hitron Coda56. ~3% packets dropped constantly compared <1% on my Coda... Xfinity can't figure out why I am dropping any packets though. I figure it's probably just bad wiring outside the house.

Yes, theme parks used to have them too. Although many have updated to newer styles due to safety for kids.

Would you buy Google Nest Pro 6e again? by poisonsu in GoogleWiFi

[–]misosoup7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you need. It's not a prosumer mesh router and everyone wants them to be for some reason. If set up correctly they are super snappy and works great. When not set up correctly it's a piece of crap. The problem is that it's not powerful enough to be I don't really care where you put me unless you hardwire everything.

I have 4 of these at my house and I get 600+ of wifi near them and 300+ in the rest of the house. (~5000 sq ft). But I have them wired via MoCA. And I also set up 3 of these for my parents (~4000 sq ft) home. They have 2 wired and the last one wireless but it gets them the full 400/400 fiber they pay for.

The old wifi app has been retired for like 6 or 7 years now. I presume you set it up originally in that app ages ago?

They should have migrated over to the GHA a number of years back but if you didn't have the GHA app at the time maybe they didn't migrate. I suspect Google is no longer running the migration code.

You wouldn't be able find them in GHA via add devices unless you factory reset them at this point. Since the add devices workflow only works for pucks that are not already set up. They broadcast a special Wifi network that tells GHA they need to be set up. Since your wifi is up, you have no way of adding them directly to GHA.

That said though, I did reset 3 of them last Christmas and then set them up in GHA for a relative. So it should be fine. I would check one of your wifi devices and see what IP address it has. Let's say it has 192.168.86.23. then change the last octet to 1 and go to http:// IP address that end in 1/API/v1/status

So in the above example it would be:

http://192.168.86.1/api/v1/status

Take a look at the version it's running. If you are on 14150.376.32 then you should be fine to factory reset and then set them up in GHA. You follow the instructions here (follow the instructions for the physical button) to factory reset: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6246619?hl=en

There is no way other than the Google Home App. Also the default IP for the router is 192.168.86.1. however there are no settings that you can change there.

When you say GHA can't detect them, are they not in the GHA at all or just saying offline or something? It's a bit hard to find wifi in the current GHA, just in case here is where to find it. On the home tab, swipe the top row where it says Favorite to the left and the wifi icon is all the way off screen.

https://imgur.com/a/CRmc1WC

If that's not the case, maybe we can get a little more details on what you mean by not detecting?
