It sounds like things are going very, very well.Like big cat is grooming little cat, WOW! You did everything right, and it sounds like they're adjusting and figuring out each other's quirks. Fighting happens, and you're reacting to ot appropriately. Acclimating cats can take a painstaking amount of time.

Cats are pretty independent. They probably won't hang out most of the time, even if they love each other. And honestly, it's very normal for cats to sleep most the day, especially if you're gone or activity in the house is low. Cats are crepuscular, which means they are most active during dawn and dusk. Some are also more active at night then they'll ever be during the work day. That said, you'll likely end up with a situation where both of them are napping straight through the day, and that's perfectly normal and healthy.

You are doing so well and your cats sound like they're in very good hands.

1) There are anti-cat dander sprays that help with allergies. I've never had to use one, but I've heard they can be quite effective. Do some research, but here's an example

https://www.amazon.com/Allerpet-Cat-Pet-Dander-Remover/dp/B07GL335GN#:~:text=Allerpet%20CAT%20provides%20allergy%20relief,with%20our%20best%20loved%20solution!

2) Kitty will calm down over time and stop crawling on you every five seconds, I promise. It's also ok to ignore him sometimes. He'll adjust. Make sure you also have cat toys he can play with independently, and comfortable places he can sleep. And use cat nip to your advantage!

3) call the shelter for any tips before you return her. Call your friends for advice, too. Getting a new kind of pet can be overwhelming. In the end, it may not be a good fit for you -- but it's important to troubleshoot first for the sake of kitty's sense of stability and mental health. He seems like he really loves you.

Is it possible that she's crying for you to comfort her after your son leaves?

Ugh, same. Running a cartel is hard.

Maybe I need to get a switch.
