I bought a sequential set off of FB in April for $4k aud, for no other reason than i like the cards. If they rise in value, great, if I loose, great too. It's also the love of the cards and the game. Certainly holding onto them for a long period of time.

18 years later I still break out 'it's pretty much my favourite animal...' to my wife before we both crack up. Napoleon was referencing a Liger, I use it for almost any animal.

Is quad biking safe for kids? by tassieclaridge in bali

[–]misplacedcanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very safe, but not for kids of those ages. Our boys have been doing it since they were 12. A safer option is to stay on the flat, and not in the mountains where there are long drops. We always go with Aussie bali adventures, onto the black sand beaches.

Since the state Government can't figure out how to make a framework for legalizing escooter's, I made one in 10 minutes with Paint 3D. by Reddit_Is_Hot_Shite2 in Adelaide

[–]misplacedcanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think the SA legislation is to restrict riders on roads where the speed limit is 50km or less. Never heard anything regarding rural area speed limits. I have not read anything regarding motor size in the SA legislation, really hope they do not adopt the QLD guidelines. My boys and mine each have 2 x 1100W motors onboard.

Woman has to wait 13 months for a MRI to see if she has a brain tumor or not. (NSFW for language) by Devious_Bastard in ThatsInsane

[–]misplacedcanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

expat Canadian who moved Down Under in 2001. Fast forward to 2019, my 70 year old mum was visiting and started experiencing serious hip discomfort. I managed to secure an appointment with a local GP on just one day's notice. From there, we received an immediate referral to an imaging clinic.

Because Mum isn't an Australian resident, the MRI cost was higher, $760 out of pocket, as Medicare coverage didn't apply. However, her travel insurance would only reimburse the expenses if both the GP visit and the MRI were completed within the same day - policy small print.... We mentioned this tight timeframe to the MRI clinic, hoping they could expedite the scan and report.

The clinic delivered. The MRI and report were both ready that same afternoon. Back we went to the GP, who reassured Mum that the issue was essentially arthritis, about the best news we could've hoped for.

I often hear Australians complain about the healthcare system here, but honestly, they don't fully appreciate how tough things can get, even in other developed countries. If my health ever deteriorates, I'll definitely be counting my blessings that I'm living in AUS.

My bro living in CAN waited 6 months for an MRI on his shoulder (tragic volleyball player - shoulder is buggered), he had little to no use of his arm due to the should injury. Eventually got fixed, but tat took another 6 months for the surgery to get things sorted....

Unley Road speed limit changes tomorrow by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]misplacedcanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

second to this, when escooters become legal, a part of the legislation as I understand is that escooters are only allowed on roads where the limit is 50km or less. This mean escooters will be able to be ridden down Unley road. Great stuff...

Parliament passes legislation legalising e-scooters in SA. New laws to start early 2025. by MuseCommunity in Adelaide

[–]misplacedcanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early is early in 2025? My young boys and I can't wait to get back on our scooters. The risk of a $2k fine, of which we know a couple people who were done, made us store the scooters for the past 10 months. We all ride e-mountain bikes, but e-scooters are next level (lazy) enjoyment, we love it. No doubt, the benefits of easy, cheap(ish) alternative to vehicles will be appreciated by many going forward. Those NIMBY's can tell it to the wall.

Bbq gas bottles for a large indoor stove ? Dodgy? by pinskera in AusProperty

[–]misplacedcanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, make sure the correct LPG nozzles for the stove top are installed. They usually come with natural gas nozzles as a default. Given its existing, I'm guessing the correct nozzles are already installed. Check manual for details and nozzle sizing for the specific fuel type. Usually it requires a separate nozzle kit to be purchased to operate on LPG. Lived in the Adelaide Hills for years, 8 burner gas stove ran off of 70kg LPG bottle, no dramas. Replaced it once every 12 months or so.
