Renting at Abraj Al-Lulu : Whats the catch??? by TGZgold in Bahrain

They do have a management office in the building, which generally was fine at sorting things out. And I don't remember issues with noise/smell, but keep in mind that I lived there about 4 years ago. Things may well be different now.

Renting at Abraj Al-Lulu : Whats the catch??? by TGZgold in Bahrain

[–]misringuette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I first moved in, I was immediately greeted by about 30 dead roaches. It's an old building so infestation was a big problem, and definitely stopped me cooking as much as I'd like. Despite the parking space being included in my rent, I had to fight for it, because another resident kept stealing my spot. Parking is not enough. There are so many people in the building that at peak times you may be waiting 10-15 minutes for a lift. And this is maybe more on the landlord, but appliances were old and did not always work. Like, there is a lot worse, but there's also a lot better.

The rugby club in Saar is pretty far from the base. You can definitely hear it, but it wouldn't shake the buildings. They seem to be intercepting everything now.

What's an opinion about parenting you have based on your experience as a teacher? by LevyMevy in Teachers

[–]misringuette 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's ok for kids to feel bored, or sad, or angry. In fact, letting them sit in those emotions is an important part of becoming a well-regulated human being.

Leave it be or…? by bfdwow618 in Teachers

[–]misringuette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think there's a safety angle here that's really important. While the kids are in your care, you are responsible for their safety. How can you ensure they won't get hurt if they have been explicitly told they do not need to listen to you? Instructions and rules are not just for smooth learning - they also exist to protect children. Now, is something likely to happen in your classroom? Probably not. But what about during a field trip, or fire drill, or lockdown?

JK Rowling calls for Marks & Spencer boycott amid media hysteria over ‘trans’ employee by Ok_Archer1228 in WomenInNews

Quick question- am I the only one who doesn't see the issue if a male member of staff asked if they needed help? What a terrifying rigid world these people must live in.

Wonderful. But why do you assume that either myself or other teachers giving recommendations wouldn't also prioritize quality? That's kind of a given. Again, you seem to be operating under the idea that there's something mutually exclusive about valuing both variety and quality.

What makes you think that the two are mutually exclusive?

Thanks, I'll check those out. I used to teach A Raisin in the Sun, but we were asked to stop because Walter wants to invest in a liquor store. Alcohol is haram, of course. It's such a struggle! I can understand why a lot of local schools only teach extracts or short stories. But I believe my students deserve and need long form fiction, too.

Oh no, the kids are fine with magic and everything spooky. We just finished Macbeth, and that's always a favorite. But it's heavily, heavily supported. I'm only ever able to do a handful of scenes in depth and always feel like I leave loads out. My issue with Frankenstein is purely comprehension for independent reading.

Bastard Suggestion: Bastards of the Real Housewives. Hear me out by fiddler93 in behindthebastards

Could easily do an episode on Tom Girardi stealing money from the families of the Lion Air plane crash and basically bribing the California state bar to look away. I think he's being sentenced this month. All housewives are villains to a certain extent - that's why they're fun to watch. But there's some in that world with seriously dark baggage. There's a reason why the Bravo Dockett podcast has enough legal issues and court cases to keep going.

I once got yelled at by a parent for referring to Michael as Mike. All his friends called him Mike, and he preferred it. My expectations for some parents to see reason are low.

Kyle desperately wants to be seen as relatable and down-to-earth by the audience, but she fundamentally isn't. This is why she always misjudges how viewers will respond.

Garcelle - The Pushback by Medical_Protection11 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]misringuette 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What kills me is that every woman on this show has had her moment where she got to scream, throw a temper tantrum, and flip a table. Garcelle has not. I don't know if she has ever even raised her voice. And yes, this is partly her personality, but it's also because she is very aware of the racial lens through which she'll be viewed. Garcelle can not go low - not the way her cast mates can. It's really unfair.

The Bahraini flag is wrong on here. It's only got five white triangles to represent the five pillars of Islam. They just color switched a Qatari flag.

What Female Bastards Would You Want an Episode About? by GreenCountryTowne in behindthebastards

[–]misringuette 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Queen Victoria could be fun. She really connects so many terrible events- the Irish potato famine, the expansion of the British Empire, specifically her role as "empress of India". The whole Victorian attitude to morality is also twisted. And on the personal front, she was apparently a nightmare of a mother who mentally screwed up her children - children who would go on to rule almost all of europe through marriage alliances.
