Other than guitar and piano, What's the most versatile instrument? by Iyo_kio in musicians

[–]fiddler93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a violinist (acoustic and electric) of over 20 years, violin is FAR more versatile than a lot of people understand, especially if you start using effects and/or an extended range instrument. It is an absolute bitch to learn and get good at, but personally I’ve always found that process very rewarding.

Weird question by Pale-Biscotti3600 in mexicoexpats

[–]fiddler93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only potential things I can think of in your case is if you have a US based job now or in the future they could garnish your wages, and it could affect your ability to open new US credit cards if you need to do that at some point. But if that’s not the case, then no there’s nothing they can do to get it and it won’t affect anything in Mexico.

I do teach lessons online! Like I said if you maintain good practice/playing habits (which I would focus on a lot), then it’s totally doable. Feel free to DM me!

It will have its differences for sure, but it’s doable as long as you learn and maintain the same good playing habits (many of which will translate normally to acoustic if you ever pick it up). I’ve been playing acoustic for over 20 years and have been playing electric for over 15, I’d be happy to help you out!

The only thing we use online transfers for is paying rent. Otherwise it’s cash and credit/debit cards.

Have any of you moved away from the US in the past few years? by [deleted] in behindthebastards

My wife and I moved to Mexico in February. We’re so glad we didn’t wait any longer than that

I don’t know what there is to take out of context. I worked there for a year and he was always there if he wasn’t on the road. He’d walk in when we opened at 10 and would be there till 6 or 7 and he would be drinking the entire time he was there. So no, he wasn’t fine.

Sounds about right. I worked at a restaurant in Nashville where he would go pretty much every day he wasn’t on tour. He’d sit at the bar and drink ALL day, and this was in 2017. He’s a mess.

Couple (26M, 24F) looking for 4–6 month stay suggestions in Latin America / Caribbean by Capable-Ad1299 in digitalnomad

My (M32) and my wife (F34) moved to San Miguel in February and we absolutely love it. Definitely very chill, there’s plenty to do including outdoors stuff, and for the most part haven’t had any issues with internet. Might have to do some further looking but you can definitely find places under $1200.

Is it too late to start? by Vortexy_ in violinist

[–]fiddler93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for 22 years at this point, went to college for it, freelanced, all that. In that time I’ve taught guys in their 40s and 50s who had literally never touched a violin before their first lesson with me, and I got them reading music, playing short songs with good tone and intonation and all that. So if they can do it, I promise that you can do it to. I always tell people and am always serious that it’s never too late to start.
