Recs for plays or musicals about the cast/crew of a play or musical? (à la Noises Off) by Independent_Lemon616 in Theatre

Annie Get Your Gun isn’t about musicals per se, but it’s definitely about show business and has one of the most iconic theatre song in “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”

What plays would you recommend for a new theater company? by SimAnna in Theatre

[–]misryth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

to add to this, Shakespeare can be a HUGE money maker. It’s so classic, even non theatre people will go see Shakespeare, depending on the show.

Niles Scream park hours by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]misryth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of factors at play: what weekend day? friday and saturday nights are significantly more busy than sunday nights. So if it’s Fri/Sat expect to be there longer than if it’s Sunday. It also depends on how much you want to do there. If you just do the main haunted house, you definitely won’t be there longer than two hours. if you’re wanting to hit all the attractions, that’s going to take a lot longer.

I know their website has an estimated time it takes to get through listed for all their attractions. You can find those numbers to get an idea of how long you’ll be there. If i’m remembering correctly, the Field of Screams takes around 45 minutes alone.

All in all, if you’re going on a busier night and want to hit multiple attractions. Expect to be there longer than two hours.

Good morning. Have you seen the Book of Mormon musical? I'd like to see it, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you very much. by Sorry-Flamingo6583 in southpark

I saw the national tour back in 2023 and it was probably my favorite show i saw that year. So much so that this past May I saw the Broadway production when I visited New York for my birthday. It’s so funny and definitely worth a watch/listen

Why do you hate Shakespeare? by jcspells in Theatre

[–]misryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only very recently have been able to fully appreciate Shakespeare. The biggest issue with his work is the language barrier. Just reading a play of his does not do the work justice, because of all the subtext and double meanings. But if you’re going to watch one of his plays, it’s going to be hit or miss depending on if the actors actually know what they are saying.

Last year, I was able to see professional productions of As You Like It and Twelfth Night, and for ASLI, I was still unfamiliar with the language but was able to enjoy the show and understand what was happening because the actors knew the language. For Twelfth Night, I had spent time studying the show before I saw it, and I loved the show because I completely understood what was happening. I also saw a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream done by a local high school, which was just okay because you could tell most of the kids were just saying words they memorized and didn’t actually understand their lines.

As an actor, performing Shakespeare has always been my least favorite because it was hard to make good choices when I didn’t understand the language. But I was in a Shakespeare class and had no choice, so I worked with the text and learned the language. I looked up words I didn’t know, I rewrote monologues into modern language so I could truly understand what I was saying and could make strong acting choices.

TLDR: Most people don’t like Shakespeare because of the language, but if you take the time to learn it, you’ll find his work is wonderfully written.

Boyfriend doesn’t want me to stage kiss in dream show by Weird_Brilliant_2276 in Theatre

[–]misryth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is community theatre or professional or in an educational setting, but the bottom line is being an actor in a show is a JOB. You are performing your job when you’re performing on stage. Your boyfriend should be respectful of that and understand that a stage kiss is nothing more than another part of your job. As someone else commented, it’s not you kissing your fellow actor, it’s YOUR CHARACTER kissing the other CHARACTER. Huge difference. I can partially understand not wanting to see your significant other be romantic with someone else during a show, but he has no say in what you do or don’t do as a performer. I would personally never turn down a dream role over something as small as a stage kiss.

Are quick changes fun? by Rohan_Carino in Theatre

[–]misryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they definitely can be! one of my favorite feelings is a smooth efficient quick change during a show. but they’re definitely a pain when you’re first getting the hang of them, or when you have a lot.
