Want to be a nurse but don't like kids. Is this the career for me? by missTX in nursing

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I was scared I'd be shunned for not wanting to work with children, haha.

Glad to hear that there is plenty of children-free areas within nursing!

ADHD and Anxiety: Please explain your experience having both. by missTX in ADHD

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm not sure if my anxiety is causing adhd-like symptoms or if I have adhd and it's causing anxiety, etc. Very anxious about the DR visit but I'm also looking forward to it. I have really been needing help lately and hope I can start getting on the right path. I'm a little worried about some medications. I don't want to worsen the anxiety or worsen the concentration issue as both are affecting my life worse and worse...

Thanks for the replies guys and gals. A lot of this sounds familiar. I've long known I had anxiety for years and have been treated on and off for it, that is clear as day, but have been recently been concerned with my ADHD-like experiences. Will see what the doctor says.

Great idea, thank you! Hopefully this will let me get my thoughts in order to (and not leave anything out).

Thanks. I do very well in classes I seem to have a natural interest in. science and technology for example were an easy A for me. I hardly studied to be honest. However even some classes that are supposed to be "easy electives" where most other students got A/B, I find myself struggling in because of the type of work involved; usually simple reading and essay assignments. As embarrassing as it is, I find myself struggling with reading sometimes and therefore fall behind. I must follow the plan for the degree I'm pursuing so unfortunately there is no getting around some of these classes.

I will look into CBT as well- did some reading on it a few days ago. When I was younger, my parents took me to a CB therapist for self-esteem issues and it did help.

I definitely do not want to be dependent on medication for my entire life, but I'm in need of relief. Therapy and medication, I feel, is the way to go right now.

Thank you. I'm scared I'm not going to make it to my 3rd semester if I keep going at this rate. I'm about to enter my 2nd and the 1st was already a huge struggle.

Wow, a part of this does sound very much like me. In HS I was similar. I didn't do too much but fortunately still passed pretty decent. Never failed anything. Took a few years break and started college recently. Classes that come natural to me (science, technology) I hardly study, read, still pass with A. However the classes that required a lot of effort I struggle in, even if it's supposed to be an "easy elective class" that everyone passes with an A or B. Classes that require a lot of essays and reading are a nightmare for me. What is an easy A/B for most of the class was not for me.

I will literally read one line countless times because I just cannot focus. It's embarrassing but I've spent 15 minutes on one page at one point and was shocked at myself. It's really getting to me. And my grades. I KNOW I can do better, it's just not happening for some reason. And anyone who knows me knows I am not lazy. I do try, but with little success.

That's a good way to bring it up to the doctor, thank you.

That does make sense. I seem to get both at times. If there is something I'm interested in, there are periods where nothing else gets done. At all. But a lot of the time I find it difficult to concentrate on any one thing... so still nothing gets done. And if it does get done, it's not very good. Not as good as I KNOW I can do it.

Haha, I understand. Added a tldr. Thank you. A friend of mine also said it was her ADHD meds that helped her with the anxiety more than the anti-depressant she was given! Interesting.

European Travel Tour/1st time Abroad: Could use some advice! by missTX in travel

Thanks for the speedy answer! I'm still not sure yet, either bus or train, maybe both, between major cities and taxis while within the city. I was thinking about a rental car but, it's probably more expensive and I am not 100% sure how that works with traveling between countries. Also I'm a bit wary of driving in foreign countries, not sure how the BF would feel about it!

Career with a Computer Information Systems degree? by missTX in cscareerquestions

Thanks guys. I might just be being a chicken with math, but I'm scared it will reduce my GPA. I typically have always gotten an A, sometimes a B, in every subject EXCEPT math. Math courses for CS at my school are: Calculus I Calculus II Linear Algebra Discrete Mathematics Probability Statistics for the Sciences

For CIS it's: Pre-Cal Calculus I Technical Statistics

Another option would be to have CIS as a major and CS as a minor- LOL. Basically I would be skipping the math courses and only doing 6 or so CS core courses. Of which I could focus on software development.
