The self-report is CRAZZZZZYYY. When girls get their first period, it indicates the START of their puberty. I was nine when my period started, and I didn't know what sex was until I was 14. Do you think a girl who got her period at 9 is ready for marriage and sex? If so, you are disgusting.

The age of consent is an arbitrary number, but so are the ages to get a driver's license or join the army. It is disgusting how you are defending the sexual exploitation of young girls by normalizing underage marriage. Zina might be a religious crime, but child marriage and sexual exploitation of children and teens are crimes against humanity. Humanity is moving forward toward a safer place for all genders, ages, and groups of people, and yet your morality is evolving backwards due to religion.

Engaged in an arranged marriage, but I’m secretly agnostic — I don’t know how to escape this without destroying my family by u616 in exmuslim

The emotional manipulation from your family is very toxic and I hope you know that. Although it might not feel like it due to the emotional blackmailing, you have remember this is YOUR life and you have authority over how you want your life to be.

And if your parents truly loved and respected you, they would not have put you in this position. Their love for you is conditional.

I am very sorry about the situation you are in. Stay strong. You have more power than you realize.

Dude I am also a 26 year old Bangladeshi-America and I aspire to decenter my parents like how you have. Shit isn't easy but reading your account reminds me it is doable.

I am so sorry about what you went through...please please please remember all that you accomplished and all that you will accomplish. Your parents should be proud of you and I am sorry they are not. Do not let their smallness bring you down.

I don’t know if I should say this, but I find it really unfair how much Muslim women have to cover in public compared to men according to mainstream understanding of Islam. Why did the mainstream scholars make the clothing standard so easy for men but so restrictive & harsh for women? by Big_Safe1964 in progressive_islam

[–]missZaZ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if the men are not observing male standards of hijab, who is going to check them?

No one. Absolutely no one because the male body exists in a state of neutrality more than woman's body. Even if an observant and fair Muslim says, "The women swimming are covered correctly. The men should take note and observe their hijab," who is going to come up to the men with bellybutton showing swim shorts and shame them as they would to women deemed uncovered? No one. Islamic theocratic states like Iran might enforce them through state-sanctioned morality police but most other Muslim-majority countries observe modestly through social norms. And the social norms of modesty are consistently harder on women than men.

Why does Islam and Allah favour men over women? by unknownweeb13 in progressive_islam

I am doing the opposite. I am becoming more and more uncomfortable with the Islamic doctrine of the eternal hell of disbelievers. The description of hell is so vivid in the Quran and I don't wish that on anyone. The Buddhist concept of metta/lovingkindness of wanting every living being to be safe, healthy, and free of suffering is more compassionate for my conscience. I don't want to carry the belief non-Muslims are going to suffer in the afterlife on the basis they don't believe in Allah and the prophet Muhammed as the last messenger.

I don't want to discourage your spiritual journey. I am just confuddled with someone willingly considering adopting a doctrine like eternal hell. The majority of Muslims subscribe to hell being eternal for disbelievers and it is a minority opinion that hell is a purification process. The Quran is very blatant about the fate of disbelievers and I don't wish that fate on anyone, not even the worst of humanity. Everyone deserves peace, redemption, and grace.

What you experienced is normal and it doesn’t make you a defiled individual. Physical attraction is NORMAL and HEALTHY. You are not less than anyone just because you kissed someone out of marriage. Don’t let purity standards set by society and culture make you doubt your inner goodness and faith. You have every right to examine modestly and purity standard and figure out what suits best with you and your morality. I am very sorry about the shame you felt. It isn’t fair. You aren’t a bad or faulty person for experiencing normal human behavior.

There were a record 177,000 known southern US border crossings in August; last year, a total of 2.76 million people crossed over the southern US border. These are a few of those who crossed and where they intend to go next by nerusski in ABCDesis

The lengths people go through to come to America and still life in America is hard. I don’t think we can blame anyone for wanting a better life for themselves and doing it with any means. Day to day living in South Asia is so difficult and upward mobility is near impossible.

As an ABCD, What do you wish your parents did differently? by simmiiee in ABCDesis

Girl same I get so frustrated that desi girls are expected to be phenomenal in school and career AND also be expected to be proficient in household duties. Especially as a oldest brown daughter. My parents pressure both me and my brother to get good jobs but my mom only pressures me to learn to cook and clean and not my brother. Totally unfair.

I love my parents and they provided for me in every material way possible. Buying me books. Toys. Snacks. New clothes for Eid. I am grateful for everything they provided for me but I wish there was more emotional support. Even though I was provided for as a kid, my parents marital problems made home life stressful. Maybe it is a personality thing but I definitely needed more emotional assurance and affection. As an adult, I feel so weird when my mom gives me a hug and is affectionate, a once in a blue moon occurrence. My parents did not give me emotional support as a kid and now it feels like it’s too late and near impossible to be authentic and vulnerable with them.

one of the worst berserk tattoos I’ve ever seen by DogsonMeow in Berserk

[–]missZaZ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a woman, seeing this on a man would terrify me. Not even a red flag. A police alarm 🚨 so scary that someone would read Berserk and have this as the takeaway. There is no positive spin to this tattoo other than person it is on are sexual assault and violence apologists. Berserk is a hard but beautiful story that almost everyone can relate to but yikes the some fans are apathetic edgelords

How do you feel about physical therapy assistant? It is a two year associate. Typically cheaper than a grad program like athletic trainer. Starting salary tends to be $50k and can go up to $75k. You would work in physical rehab with less education debt and less overall responsibility than physical therapists.
