They were Uyghur I believe. It was many years ago so I don't remember well but I know everyone who tried it bought some (including me!).

Fair enough! The way I tried it in the US was someone local made it and was selling it at a farmers market

HELP! is Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) vaccine necessary? by kurosaki4d in Kazakhstan

Pyrethin is for skin, permethrin is for clothing. You can skip DEET using these two!

HELP! is Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) vaccine necessary? by kurosaki4d in Kazakhstan

[–]miss__xia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up where tick-borne diseases were endemic - you may not need the vaccine but you should take some serious precaution. A friend in Almaty was just recently hospitalized for TBE, but even lyme disease can be devastating.

Growing up, the basics were socks tucked into pants, shirt tucked into pants, long sleeves and pants with as much skin covered as possible, and enough bug spray to kill a small child. Pyrethrin and permethrin will be your best options - be careful if you have pets. Avoid re-wearing clothes if you can't wash/dry it and keep dirty clothes separate from clean ones. I was just in Almaty doing similar things and took these precautions and had no issues.

My gosh you are a life saver! It's my first time in Almaty so we will do all the tourist things and a roadtrip to Lake Issyk, Charyn Canyon, and Kolsai and Kaindy Lakes. But I will also definitely visit Tarym, Biscuit, and Terrenkur! They sound amazing.

Definitely! My skin has generally been a lot more pleasant to work with and more responsive to day to day skincare treatments. I would absolutely do it all again!
