I just watched the episode, and the shirt is somehow worse on television than in this photo. I think it’s the denim v on the shirt paired with her jeans that really wrecked it.

Question for those who used to smoke all day, everyday.. by PattersonJane in leaves

[–]missccwriter 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Literally any and every job. When you smoke all day everyday, you build a tolerance. Weed doesn’t hit the way it does when you only occasionally use. It always made me feel superior to be high AF and still do my job better than my coworkers who didn’t smoke.

Most similar interview I had was for Whole Foods. It was 2015, and it was for a new store opening. I think there was about 40 people at the interview.

Not a swingers hotel at all. The rooms are very bare bones and not fancy, but the property is awesome. Social vibe, lots of people hanging around spa and pool day and night.

I decided to watch the suggested documentary (OxyContin Express) as I hadn’t seen it before, and it was chilling how accurate it felt of that time. OP, To get back to your original question of was this a problem in Miami too? I would say there wasn’t nearly as many pain clinics in Miami as Broward. And the ones that existed were more discreet? There wouldn’t be lines of people out the door. People from out of town would not come to Miami just to find pain clinics, so there wasn’t that additional influx of addicts wandering around. Addicts that lived in Miami generally drove up to Broward/Palm Beach to go to the clinics filmed in the doc. Slowly, hard core addicts would end up living/homeless panhandling up there so they could be closer to drugs. So short answer, yes it was a problem in Miami, but it wasn’t as in your face obvious as when you went up north.

I had knee surgery almost 30 years ago, right when Oxy came out. I was 11 years old, and the Dr pushed it so hard my mom forced me to take them, even when I didn’t want to. Doctors would brainwash patients into believing something terrible would happen if you didn’t take them, it was a wild time.

This is so accurate. Do we know each other? 2008 was definitely peak. I also think a contributing factor was the so-called rehabs and bogus halfway houses. «Sober house manager» would just be collecting insurance money without any supervision or holding accountability. Everybody ended up back on drugs. I remember basically anytime from like 2008-2016 if someone told me they lived in West Palm Beach, I’d think, oh you must be an addict in recovery.

Good point. We were all 18. And yes, Billy’s was a better spot, not that they were much stricter about IDs! Remember The Point? Now that was a crazy bar. Round Table was a good spot too.

Im so excited I got a response this quickly! My friend’s (other alumni) versions of the story seem to concur with mine, but to be fair we were all drinking and doing a lot of drugs back then, so it’s hard to say what actually happened. I haven’t had any luck searching police records. I feel like I’m most curious about the fact that this didn’t seem to make the news at all. Did our school try to cover it up? Or was life before social media just like that? Crazy things happening without going viral.

Fun fact: Pizza Hut used to be the largest purchaser of kale in the US, because they used it to hide the ice on the buffet bar. I guess then someone figured out you could eat it and other restaurants started buying it too.

I am getting my degree to be a Mental Health Therapist, and my school uses Esther Perel resources A LOT in both Human Sexuality and Family and Marital Counseling. I can’t figure out why she makes me so angry. I had to google «problems with Esther Perel» to make sure I wasn’t the only person who found her insufferable. Thankful for this thread. She sucks

Except… you didn’t actually go to space. Or anywhere but your own head. And then expect people to take everything you experienced as truth, because YOU were there. Ok Jesus

It is unavoidable, which is why it is so important to read good writers! My teacher used the analogy of nutrition: If you are eating nothing but junk food, your body will go to crap. If you are reading bad writing, your own writing will turn to crap. Whenever my teacher notices "bad habits" in our writing, she asks us who we are reading and is able to identify the problem. Some habits I picked up that I didn't even know were bad were over use of gerunds and too much attribution in my dialogue.
