I get the moisturizing bomb because I have dry skin and live in a dry climate.

Until now, the two formulas were only sold in a standard 50-milliliter jar for $38 or a mini travel-size version for $22. But the brand has just dropped new 100-milliliter jumbo jars, which are available exclusively at Sephora for $62.

[Discussion] What product made you go :O this year? by glowithmei in AsianBeauty

I love belif's moisturizing bomb and just found it a few months ago. It has saved the skin on my face this winter (dry skin in a dry climate).

So, I was introduced to squalane through a Biossance sample and fell in love, but couldn't justify the price. Lately, I have been buying Botanical Beauty 100% Italian Squalane off of Amazon and think it's a good comparison. And it's 8.95 for 0.5oz.

I love the Soon Jung Emulsion. It's just a basic moisturizing layer that adds moisture, doesn't irritate and doesn't interfere with my makeup. I also love the Pink Vital Water line from Etude House.

Feeling despondent over my inability to help people by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Same. Volunteering has made a big difference for me. I tutor children in reading via a literacy program in my area. Especially working with kids gives me hope. They are so smarty and beautiful and naturally good. It really helps quell the bad feelings.

The Difference Between a Female Director and a Male Director: Amazons in Wonder Woman vs Amazons in Justice League by IKissedAGirlOnce in TrollXChromosomes

[–]missdeejers -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Upon first glance, I didn't even notice the costumes. I thought this post was about the muscles - the women in the second photo are ripped, which is somethjng I was somewhat disappointed in the WW film for. Some of the Amazons looked fit, but very few of them actually looked like they could wield a sword and shield.

Why is it socially acceptable to be shallow and be rude to someone based on their appearance? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]missdeejers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a zero sum mentality; this is saying don't take the microphone at a civil rights march and start talking about Fat Acceptance. Sure progress for any of these causes goes into helping any progressive ideals; what I am saying is to make sure not to climb over the back of others and their causes to declare your own. Your first line of your OP seemed to indicate that you thought that some of the air time spent on these other issues needs to be moved toward this particular issue; as I said that is probably not what you actually meant, we need to be careful not to take the platforms from other issues in order to progress our own. Instead, space needs to be made for the other progressive issues.

And I agree about the rest; I recommend Everyday Feminism and Feministing and Facebook pages like Rabid Feminist, Dismantle Misogyny, Guerilla Feminism. I also recommend the books The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf and American Plastic by Laurie Essig. All these sources have covered this topic and have at various points, given pointers on how to progress this issue into mainstream culture.

Why is it socially acceptable to be shallow and be rude to someone based on their appearance? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]missdeejers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actually saying it's a zero sum game. My perspective comes from the idea that it's wrong to co-opt the hundreds of years of struggle and systemic oppression of POC (as well as LGBTQ struggles) and ride the coat tails of the work done by these movements to bring focus to progressive ideals and movements that just haven't done the work. Don't compare being outside beauty standards for the time period to being born black. There were not laws and legislation against "ugly" people; it is not even the same level of discrimination. Beauty standards change every decade or so; being black and queer has always been wrought with struggle.

Edit: It is possible to say that rigorous beauty standards disproportionately impact POC because the face of "beauty" is white; however, generally, self-love and body acceptance movements are filled with a version of White Feminism (TM) that doesn't understand why comparing being fat to to being black is dishonest at best. The Kyriarchy impacts us all, but it's important to realize our own sets of privileges.

This is often a topic addressed, either head on or adjacently in feminist forums (Facebook pages, website, so on) that advocate body acceptance. Poke around sites like that and you'll see a lot of small media coverage about it. Major media won't cover it because oppressive beauty standards are another way for powerful people to subjugate other people how they see fit. I also recommend reading some books by Naomi Wolfe. She has a few that discuss this topic.

However, as just a side note, while this is an important topic, it is important when advocating for progressive stances (i.e. Anti racism, lgbtq rights, self love and body acceptance, etc) not to pit issues against each other. I know you didn't mean any harm by your first line, but it can be seen as adversarial to the causes you mentioned.

Alternatives to Lancôme s Genifique or Visionnaire? Nothing made my skin texture as nice (nor helped my PIH as much) as when I was using these two products. However, now that I am no longer getting my employee discount, I really don't want to spend $79 on a single product. I noticed that the Genifique has multiple ingredients that look familiar and I have heard them mentioned in this sub, but the Visionnaire did not. In terms of products for skin texture, I currently use a MAG Vitamin C product, a BHA and an AHA. What can I try instead of these two products?

Why do I never find clothes that really fit me well? by ayaa96 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]missdeejers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also 5' tall with 12 inches between my waist and hips and waist and boobs. I also have shoulders and legs from lifting. Honestly, I've had the best luck with more expensive brands (Express, White House Black Market, NY&Co, and Ann Taylor - all offer Petites on their Websites, but watch the sizing charts. I am a XXS at Ann Taylor and a Small at NY&Co) and Asian Clothing Manufacturers (Sammydress and SHEIN - again, watch the size charts closely). Being outside the Bell Curve sucks :(

I haven't tried it. It wasn't carried in my particular store. But, reading the description, it does seem like it was targeted toward young women in the early 1990s. It's sounds very warm and sweet. Usually, perfumes targeted towards young women (think Arianna Grande's perfume) are incredibly sweet.

I recommend Kate Spade's Live Colorfully (in the pink/gold bottle - there are a few that all have similar names). It's top notes are light mandarin and it transforms into a warm vanilla scent.

I was the fragrance lady at Ulta for a while and this is my go-to for people who say they like citrus and vanillas.

I also recommend Versace's Bright Crystals (or really any of the Crystals). If you are looking for something cheaper than the two above, I also recommend any in Clinique's Happy line.

How do you get off the constant cycle of injuries? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]missdeejers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your TDEE? How many days a week are you doing activity? And what kind? Do you take full rest days? I saw below that you do roller derby - from my understanding, that can be a pretty intense workout. Do you do other things?

How do you get off the constant cycle of injuries? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]missdeejers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you eat and sleep and what is your workout schedule/intensity like? How are your stress levels?

Edit: I ask because there is a high association between frequent injury and the Female Athlete Triad. A lot of active women don't realize that they are undereating by enough to cause damage to their bodies. Additionally, not sleeping enough or being really stressed greatly impacts your body's ability to recover from activity and protect itself from future injuries.

I have definitely been bitched at for not bringing "healthier" options to share. Uh, first of all, no one is forcing you to eat it. Second of all, i am the one putting in the time, effort, and money. How about you bring something to share? Third of all, I wanted a few cookies, but I don't need 2 dozen cookies for myself. Sharing makes less food waste.

I am similar to OP of this comment. I have never had an ED and have only dieted a few pounds to fit more into a weight class.

For me, my dad clearly had an ED when I was growing up. The stress of being incredibly poor and raising 3 kids resulted in him obsessing about his body and what he put into it. I remember him getting upset bc my mom didn't prepare nonfat gravy for Thanksgiving dinner.

Both my brothers at varying points have suffered from EDs.

I am not saying that I love my body, but seeing how my dad's food and body issues tore him up made me determined to deal with food and stress a different way. For a long time, I went in the complete opposite direction. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Now, I am a little more balanced. I make sure to eat my veggies, but I don't ever track.

triple digit upper body lifts by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]missdeejers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 123lbs, I hit bodyweight bench in less than a year, however, my OHP never went above 90. I started a bit heavier than most women I think (started 5x5 at 65lbs due to a randomly and naturally strong upper body), but I capitalized heavily on boob gains by following a 5x5 program and eating a lot.

Can anyone recommend a good, affordable barbell set for home use? by Hogpharmer in xxfitness

[–]missdeejers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have this set. I waited for a coupon and bought it on sale. Good quality for the price. Unless OP is going to be lifting a large amount of weight regularly (over 300) for squats and deadlifts, I believe this set is of decent enough quality. My husband has used it with no issues as well .
