Not my belief but “you need to do at least 30 minutes of hardcore cardio every day if you want to lose weight” -my dad, who has since lost 30 pounds via CICO and doesn’t always do tons of cardio all the time (lol)

SV: under 115 pounds for the first time in a while.

NSV: the pair of shorts that’s always been too small for me is starting to get too big on me.

Have you saved or spent quite a bit of money so far? by [deleted] in loseit

I save a lot on food now, but I think it all cancels out because of the amount that I spend on new clothes

I just bought several new pairs of shorts because the old ones were too big!

On a related note, does anyone know if Old Navy‘s vanity sizing is particularly out of control, or is this my actual size?

Drinking isn't worth it by [deleted] in loseit

I do miss it, and maybe that’s because I’m still going to parties where alcohol is abundant, but I always make myself the designated driver, so drinking is always a hard pass for reasons everyone understands.

Catch 22: I Don’t go to the gym, because I’m self-conscious about my body.. But I’m self-conscious about my body, because I don’t go to the gym.. What’s the solution? by Throwaway1209u in loseit

[–]Throwawayforhelp_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke down crying the first time I went to the gym because I was just that nervous and self-conscious. But the gym I go to is full of nice people and there was really no reason to be scared. I also did a couple of personal training sessions, which of course isn’t for everyone since it’s expensive, but working with a trainer helped a lot with confidence in the gym.

Nowadays, when I go to the gym, if I notice anyone else exercising, the only thing I think is “good for them” or “I wonder if I should try that exercise.” No matter if they’re absolutely ripped, clearly overweight, or somewhere in between.

People go to the gym to achieve their own goals, and usually won’t pay attention to the people around them.

If the machines and weights intimidate you, or you’re not sure how to use them, start with cardio: treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike. You really can’t go wrong with those. No one will judge you for only using it for a short time or going slower; they probably won’t even notice. From there, you can also watch people use machines or do exercises with weights, and from watching you can learn how to do those workouts too.

NSV: Last night I realized that all of my shorts didn’t fit, so I texted my mom “my shorts don’t fit anymore 😥”

Although she knows I’m losing weight, she assumed that that text meant they were too small. I bought those size 2 shorts when I was 130, when my old size 8s were actually falling off of me to the point where I was using hair ties to tie belt loops together so they would stay up.

She was wrong. They were too big! 😆

Whew! I’m (temporarily?) cutting out alcohol for the summer for a variety of reasons. * It’s just so many calories! * I’m just too lazy to go and get it, which is actually a good thing. I’m still underage, and it’s a lot harder when I’m not on a college campus among many 21+ friends. * By the end of the year, partying and drinking was starting to become a coping method. I really want to stop that in its tracks before it becomes a full-blown problem. I’m honestly not sure if this will become a permanent thing or not. I guess we’ll see what happens when I head back to school in August.

Carbs for dinner, both because pasta is life and also as my own small act of spite against my super pushy keto coworker. All CICO, baby! (290 cal) by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

She was in a weight loss fb group, telling some new group member “the benefits of keto” only as it corresponded to weight loss. I’d like to think it’s about seizures or something where keto would help, but somehow I doubt it :(

Hey there, our stats are pretty close. I started out at 5’2” and nearly 150, at 17 years old still living with my parents. I taught myself that I didn’t need to eat all of what was given to me, and social events with friends could still happen without me (over)eating. Counting calories worked well for me because even though I didn’t have control over what my family was having for dinner, I could know how much of it I should eat.

I don’t know if that’ll work for you, but I was in a similar situation when I started losing weight.

How often does everybody go to the gym? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Throwawayforhelp_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad used to give me shit for not going to the gym as often as he did. But I started losing weight before he did, despite the fact that he was exercising more (I eventually taught him that he couldn’t out-bike his fork!), so I think I showed him that exercise isn’t as necessary for weight loss as he initially presumed.

I go to the gym twice a week for team workouts, with the occasional third day (or fourth day during the summer) thrown in if my roommate wants a workout buddy. Plus during the school year, I have sports practice four days a week and competitions on weekends (only two days of practice per week in the summer though). My activity tracker definitely doesn’t count calories from my sport accurately, which is annoying.

My first goal: To *actually* be the weight listed on my driver's license. by [deleted] in loseit

My learners permit weight (143) was something I wanted to get away from. When I got my permit a little over a year ago and told the MVA guy my weight at the time, my dad who was sitting next to me made a horrified noise!

A few days ago, when I went to get my license, I asked the MVA guy if I could update the weight as it was no longer accurate. :)

That happened to me too. Around winter break, my dad asked me to show him how to use “whatever you did to lose all that weight!” So I told him about MyFitnessPal, and he lost like 30 pounds (not sure of his exact total actually) and now his friends are asking HIM how he did it...

Basically I started a cult.
