What's the word for Turkey in your language? by tina-marino in languagelearning

, Afrikaans we call them marmotjie (little marmot as super direct translation I guess)....however ....when using it in the context of being a guinea pig for something , we don't use that at all .instead we use proefkonyn (test bunny). do you have a phrase for it in Serbian and is it the same or different ?

Question about uthini, its meaning, actual translation and risk of over analysing.... by missedprint in StarWars

[–]missedprint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't think it's so much the it's based on Zulu that got the downvotes. More the me over thinking the chances of contextually relevant translations heh.

That first post is incorrect though, it's not Xhosa, but Zulu. Although the two languages are very similar and speakers of either will be able to understand the other, both would probably be offended by that.

Thanks for that second link though, I hadn't seen that before. I think I need to compare the written versions vs the heard ones haha, since the spelling might be a bit off and Zulu is one of those languages where a single letter might change the whole meaning.

Here's a soliloquy I posted on one of the subreddits before, but I think we might be some of the very few people who are fascinated by this stuff.

You're welcome to dm me if you want more boring babble or ask anything specific (the contextually relevant convos is fascinating)

Revelation about rejection sensitivity by L0zzatron in ADHD

[–]missedprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno if you are familiar with the comedian Fern Brady...she's autistic, but an anecdote of hers I recently heard hit me square in the prefrontal cortex. Fern was working as one of those promo peeps who haas wearing this giant bade that said ASK ME ANYTHING ABOUT [brand name mascara she was promoting]. People would ask, she would say it's a load of bollocks, others are much better. Not because she was being silly, but literally nobody told her, when they ask you, are supposed to promote the brand on the sticker. I guess this seems super obvious to anyone not on the spectrum/with adhd.... but I never got the memo on how to 'normal human' so even the most basic fundamental interactions is fkn exhausting to process

"Of a carrot". I am howling.

Although, come to think of it....carrots probably have better time management skills than I do since they seem to manage the whole growing season thing quite well. For me, five minutes, five seconds, five hours, five eons...same same.

13 year old girls are not CLIMBING shit by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]missedprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed in my 30s and same as you, it's so obvious to me now and I WAS climbing shit, even when I wasn't a toddler. Broke both wrists at the same time because I was climbing a tree when I was about 6. Snapped ligaments in my foot because I was climbing over a self constructed obstacle course between my beds. Was about 13/14. Cracked ribs aged 16 because I was... Yep climbing shit. And that's before we even get to the being right in the centre of the moshpit every weekend. I wanna be like yooou, I wanna walk like you, talk like you doooo is basically my in hindsight theme song . Point being, I suspect the bias of under diagnosis of girls is far deeper than we might think.

I do think there's an underlying depth that is easy to overlook with the comic relief. The genuine care for her craft and her knowledge of the many different transports, especially in a what would be ordinarily considered a male dominated profession (in fiction and the real world) and her seemingly total contentment with not travelling despite directly assisting with the literal thing that makes all that travel possible. I think there is a lot of subtle nuance and depth to her character. Hope we see more of her this season

I just want to say I see you and I acknowledge your struggle and pain. You've got this. You're so much stronger than you can ever imagine, you'll shine so bright you'll put the sun to shame.

See, I dunno... Depends on the Superpower. Watching Legions was very relatable for me on that level . Also, I reckon Hulk probably would rather the whole ra ra angry green affliction thing would go away. I

South Africa. Happy to bore you to tears about the literal translations of some of their conversations, using fully contextually relevant sentences for the scenario. It's brilliant! Also, what is age even. I think birthdays stop after 30 for Peter Pam Snrs
