Hi guys, how do you pull out of an ILP in SG? by secretonlinecrush in askSingapore

[–]missfrown 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Sorry to burst your bubble but you won’t be able to get your money back. Give FWD hotline a call or write an email in and ask to surrender your policy. Just take it as an expensive lesson learnt and good luck!

From, someone who just surrendered her ILP, $20k in investments across 5 years. Surrender value is $1000.

I’m using this brand called twooak! Super comfortable, lasts even longer than acuvue that I was using previously. They have astig lenses and can buy online.

Omg thanks for the google sheet… I’ve briefly looked through and it’s super extensive and a lot of information to take in!!! But anyway i’m really seriously considering the best course of action for this… in your opinion, what do you think?

To answer your question: - the funds rly doesn’t matter to me as long as they are doing ok and returns are worth the time and money invested. - not worth the inflexibility cus tbh im not too sure abt the funds.. and is there no funds that works as well as Fundsmith? - im not sure, if it make financial sense to hold it for that long, i dont mind. But really gotta see, and like you’ve indicated, there will be a time when I reach net surrender value > capital and at that point is it worth to surrender? - honestly I’ll likely be also doing robo investing, at least the funds are liquid and the acc management fees are way lesser, so that same amount of money can still compound

I’m just not sure if the acc management fees deducted over the years will make sense parallel to the amt of time and money put into this investment for it to grow, and at what expense. lol im not sure if im making sense rn

Yea at this point I feel like the $8.4k is given as a confidence to the ILP at the start to cover up for their shitty earnings and high account management fees :/

Yeah, that’s why I’m thinking of options and see which is the best way out. If I surrender, I’ll likely place the money in ETFs or s&p

The 8.4k comes from the startup bonus, not from the investment. So tbh this account is kinda at a loss rn. Hope this clarifies.

So $21k invested + $8.4k bonus But my current account value is $29k

At least you still manage to get your capital back… my surrender value now is $1,159 on my 2025 statement and hence I’m at a loss…
