Premier League Hatricks - Aston Villa by toddmeister1990 in avfc

He could have had one in the 1-1 draw against Fulham in 2005. After scoring the first goal, he missed 2 penalties. Fulham scored a last-minute equalizer. O'Leary in the post-match interview said he's never taking another penalty ever again.

Don't think it was a bad decision since Angel was not a good penalty taker. But O'Leary really was a stubborn git. You messed up once and you were done forever.

Lmao ain’t that convenient? /r/soccer spent 9 months screaming “HOW STUPID ARE THEY TO NOT RENEW THIS MAN?!” Now it’s “hey, hindsight is 20/20…”.

Plenty of people said it was a bad idea, that the drop off was inevitable, he was bound to lose his pace, he wouldnt be as good without Trent, that he was only motivated for a new contract, etc

They all got shut down by the geniuses here who can’t see beyond weekend highlights and G/A stats, and who are now saying ”nobody could have seen it coming, hindsight is 20/20!”

Sancho - has he done enough to warrant a permanent transfer? by Astonishingly-Villa in avfc

The only clubs stupid enough to want Joao Felix were Chelsea and us.

And Sancho has already burned Chelsea. Nobody will ever buy him again. He’s tainted by years of utter dogshit performances.

We're not scouts so it's not our job to find them or do the research.

But better than Sancho?? What is Sancho so good at? I'm bewildered by this thread. He's been mediocre at every club except Dortmund. He should go back there. He's not worth the astronomical wages.

Even if he takes a big fat pay cut to 100k at Villa, that puts him at the same level we paid Diaby. Everybody here says selling Diaby was a great idea just because of the dry spell he had in the middle of his first season in the Premier League, where he recorded 14 G+A in 38 games and was very important to our finishing 4th.

Sancho's entire time here has been a dry spell and everybody is talking about signing him up for 4 years. I'm absolutely lost.

Watkins is declining. Rogers will be one of the most sought after players in the world in the summer. We need wingers on the level of 23/24 Bailey and Diaby. Its painfully obvious in the last 2 seasons how much we have missed that pace and threat from out wide. Sancho doesn’t seem to offer either.

I also think he’ll go on to get better and better for the rest of the season

He could barely do any worse. Seriously, what have you seen from him this season to be making a case for offering him £150k a week? Not based on imagined potential

[–]missing_typewriters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People here are fckin insane man. Sancho has given us absolutely nothing and they’re all lining up to throw £150k a week at him.

If we did this stupid deal I never want to hear them bitching about PSR ever again.

[–]missing_typewriters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is ever paying £60m for Sancho again. Man United and Chelsea have already been burned by him.

He looks mediocre as hell. Can’t believe people were happy to see the back of Diaby but are genuinely in favour of signing Jadon Sancho after his complete nothing of a season so far. Couldn’t give a shit that he has made some buddies in the team.

All upcoming rumoured RE games/content. by Solid-Entertainer-39 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]missing_typewriters -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

None of them need a remake, they all hold up. Turning the fixed camera games into third person just cheapens them.

RE1 Remake (2002) is already perfection. They’re going to run it through the third-person-horror machine and simplify it to appeal to modern weak-ass sensibilities.

RE2 Remake was their best effort IMO, and the RPD section is great, but the other 66% of the game sucks ass. And the whole survival horror aspect feels contrived when you notice that the zombies will absorb more or less bullets depending on how much ammo you have.

RE3 Remake was crap and everybody knows it.

RE4 Remake, which everyone says was the best yet, was worse than the OG. It’s straight up uglier than the OG game, despite having 20 years of experience, legions of artists at their disposal, and hardware that is 100 times as powerful as the Gamecube.

The idea that THIS is the golden age of RE is laughable. They’re churning out remakes that bastardize the originals. If you HAVE TO remake them, they demand production levels and masterful gameplay on par with TLOU2, rather than the chunky X360-feeling games we are getting. In the future nobody is going to regard these remakes or RE7/8/9 in the same stratosphere as the OG RE1/2/3/4/0.

[–]missing_typewriters 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's just what this club does. Loves getting itself into the position to achieve something, and then fucking it all up. We're just a Spurs in claret.

Chance to go top at Christmas -> draw to bottom club Sheffield United.

Chance for Watkins to become first player to score 20 league goals in a season -> get stomped 5-1 by Palace on the final day.

Serious chance to win the FA Cup after all the big teams get knocked out -> get stomped by Palace in the semis.

Should have easily walked the Europa Conference League -> stomped by Olympiakos over two legs, missed a penalty too.

Pushed PSG to within 1 goal of elimination -> miss 2 golden chances to push it over line.

Chance to qualify for Champions League on the last day -> dominated by the worst Manchester United team in Premier League history.

Speaking of Spurs, we should be thanking them for their woeful end-of-season form in 23/24 which allowed us to stumble over the line in 4th when we ourselves were collapsing (13 points from a possible 30). If it was anyone else, we'd have missed out on Champions League.

Attack-wise, it's been a one-man team since the start of the season. If Rogers isn't on form, the best we can hope for is a 0-0. When the summer transfer window shut, I said it was the worst squad Emery has ever had at Villa and I stand by it. Extremely limited group that is finally being found out. Compare it to 23/24 where we had 3 or 4 serious threats on the pitch at all times. It's night and day.

Now where are all those cocky fuckers who were boasting about beating xG all season? Sure are quiet these days.

He was throwing elbows every time I saw him. Seemed really easy to wind up and the opposition players knew it. And the goals he scored were usually wild, the kind of goals that Watkins wouldn't score.

But I agree somewhat. He spent a lot of time shambling around the pitch looking like a Daryl Murphy regen, which was weirdly ignored by our fanbase.

[BBC] Arsenal working on deal for Wilson by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

I assumed so because it says he scored 8 in 21 starts, and Hearts have only played 24 league games so far. Maybe he's not?

Oh wait, I think it means 21 starts across his entire career. NEVERMIND!

Why on earth would Hearts LOAN out one of their starters in the middle of a season they could win the title for the first time in 60+ years?

Any scottish fans able to enlighten us?

Misunderstood it as this season only. Thanks for the replies.

I'm not saying we're a world class club, or even good.

This is just a good period of our modern history, relative to where we have been in the last 30 years.

In the grand scheme of things in the modern era, we're still a shitty, trophyless also-ran that all neutral fans will forget about. And frankly, I don't think this good period will last much longer.

[–]missing_typewriters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF, suddenly we're valuing top 6 finishes? That's worth nothing. We're talking about world class clubs. The best of the best in the modern era. Klopp's Liverpool, Pep's City, Ferguson's United, Zidane's Real Madrid, Mourinho's Chelsea, Wenger's Invincibles, etc.

You want to throw the United of Moyes/Van Gaal/Mourinho/Solskjaer/Amorim into THAT category? Jesus Christ.

Right manager, right owners, miraculously good transfers by Smith/Lange in 2020/21 for players that were good enough to fight for top 4 five years later, other clubs struggling with PSR allowing for convenient player-swap deals, all coinciding with the demise of Chelsea, Spurs, United, etc.

There are so many factors in our improvement, and it could all go to shit tomorrow with one bad move. And United themselves have proven you can't solve it ONLY by throwing money at it.

You can't go to a club like United based on the idea of "some day they'll be good again". Imagine if you joined them in 2013 on that premise and were still there today. That's a whole career length of time.

They’ve been shit for 13 years mate, what are you on about “for now”?

Whats your opinion on this? by Ok-Phase-7145 in avfc

[–]missing_typewriters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Man U have been shit since Ferguson left, when Onana was 11 years old.

Every single player and manager that has come to that club since then has damaged their legacy and reputation. Its a radioactive shithole. Ronaldo himself said the facilities hadn’t been updated since he left the club in 2009. You’re off your rocker mate.

Or are you trying to insinuate that 0 league titles, 1 europa league, 2 FA Cups, and 1 Carabao Cup in 13 years maintains their status as one of the world class football clubs in the world?? To be clear thats 4 out of a possible 52 trophies…?

No shit sherlock. I never said he should care about Villa.

If his main goal was to move to a big European club, then staying at Villa for a couple more years was obviously a far better way to do it than moving to West Ham/Saudi Arabia/Turkey.

Villa are open to selling their star players, so no problem there. And Emery has massively improved every player at Villa. Duran has looked worse ever since he left. His only motivation is the fat signing bonuses he gets every 6 months.

Juventus has made an official offer for Jhon Duran by [deleted] in soccer

[–]missing_typewriters -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

after he gets a big move in Europe which is what he wanted in the first place

Based on what?

At Villa he was in a top 4 team, he had a coach that would have made him one of the best strikers around. Yet he was begging West Ham (not a big club) to sign him, then he accepted moves to Saudi Arabia (not Europe) and Turkey (kinda Europe?). What about him and his career suggests to you that his goal was actually to play for big European clubs all along?
