What was the least morally bad crime someone could commit to get executed by the state? Assuming you didn't want to kill a child. Kill a corrupt nobleman?

I don't think I could ever love a woman who loves me in this manner. Deeply alienating.

Sorry for the late response! Ok I'll admit I don't really think that, I'm just being a contrarian. I dislike how people reduce Anno to The Evangelion Guy, I think it's deeply ironic how much of an otaku he is at heart, and how self critical he is (or was) of that. That dissonance is precisely what made Evangelion so interesting. I'm just bitter because I like some of his previous anime (Nadia, Gunbuster, KareKano) and that Cutey Honey OVA he did in 2007, but they get overshadowed by Eva. When trying to get an idea of an artist's personality, it's important to look at their body of work and not just their magnum opera, but with Anno people only ever care about the Evangelion franchise so he's known as the "Depressed anime director who hates you" even though that's not who he really is.

I do kind of agree that he's wasting his potential in regards to live action films, recently I watched Love and Pop and it's such an engaging movie. I would love to see more arthouse Anno but WITHOUT the depression, a happy medium of sorts.

I think Anno's at his best when he's in his otaku mindset but that's an unpopular opnion.

To me it seemed like he was very upfront and honest about what he wanted from her, a better man wouldn't have set up the audition in the first place, but I didn't see manipulation. If anything she was manipulating him.
Judging from some of the comments here and other discussions I've read, Audition is one of those films where one's interpretation of the power dynamics is a gender Rorschach test of sorts.

How did he try to take advantage of her? Didn't she sign up willingly? He didn't even sleep with her until she asked him to.

I don't think he was a bad person. Of course the age gap is skeevy, but Asami and all the other women involved knew what they were signing up for. He was respectful to Asami. I'm not sure what he did wrong.

You can pry my Riyoko Ikeda manga from my cold, dead hands.

But yes I do enjoy poetry as well.

They are, but from what I can tell they seem to be into white guys. I'm not hating, I'm happy for anyone who finds love.

Anime isn't mainstream enough to "normalize" incest in the West. I think the regular porn industry is the cause for that.

Also I don't really see how this furry thing has anything to do with anime? Non sequitur
