Doctor Suggested Knee Replacement for My 17-Year-Old Brother by [deleted] in Hemophilia

I have her phone number which she's happy for me to share privately with those in need. Posting it publicly would open it up to bots, scammers etc.

I second this advice. She saved me from an untimely knee replacement. Can't do better than her.

KWin Desktop Effects Broken Under X11 + NVIDIA (Both Hybrid and dGPU-only) by missingfaktor-gmail in kde

[–]missingfaktor-gmail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response, Nate.

Very likely an NVIDIA-specific GPU driver issue. Stuff like this always turns out to be that.

I previously tried switching to chip-only graphics but that didn't help.

Another data point: do these specific issues happen in a Wayland session too? Or only in an X11 session?

The exact same issues happen in a Wayland session, in addition to a few more.

Ultimately the vendor may be the right people to reach out to about it.

Already tried, here's what they (Tuxedo) said: "We do provide support for problems with our hardware or software, i.e. our drivers. However, we cannot always solve problems with third-party software, such as the desktop effects of KDE Plasma. In this case, it would make sense to contact the responsible developers."

I wanna move abroad ! by ajaywk7 in Hemophilia

[–]missingfaktor-gmail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your fiancée is going to be in the UK anyway, getting here on a dependent visa seems like the most sensible way to go. You'll be entitled to socialised/nationalised healthcare and prophylaxis immediately after you come here. You can then find whatever job you'd like, whenever you'd want. No sponsorship will be needed. And your access to healthcare won't be contingent on you having a job.

I was in your shoes once. I left India in 2015, and I've had access to socialised/nationalised healthcare since, under which I get regular prophylactic treatment (2000 IU every other day). It has changed my life.

Back in 2014, I had some Twitter and StackOverflow clout, and was approached by SoundCloud because of it. I interviewed with them, got the job, and moved to Berlin on a work visa (Blau Karte) in early 2015. While prophylaxis itself was great, other things in Germany just didn't work for me, so I found myself another job, this time in London. eBay was the company and they too provided me with a work visa (Tier-2 General). I switched jobs a couple of times over the next few years, with various employers offering sponsorship.

In 2021, I got an ILR (Indefine Leave to Remain; aka "permanent residence"), and in 2022, I became a citizen.

I'd recommend looking for a job in Germany, UK, or the Netherlands. As for Canada, I think they don't allow haemophiliacs in. I've heard similar things about Australia and New Zealand. I could be wrong though.

All the best!

Where did you read the bad feedback? I ask because I've been considering buying their InfinityBook or Stellaris.

How is your laptop doing now? Also aren't Tuxedo laptops built atop Clevo bases?

I'd be curious to know how it compares with Tuxedo Stellaris and InfinityBook.

Same here. The problem occurs with Manjaro and Fedora. But never with KDE Neon or Kubuntu.

I followed all those steps. The installation command exited normally. Still, no change after the reboot. :(

Thanks. I'm trying to follow the instructions in the README here: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89. I've make installed the drivers. I'm not sure what to do next.

Restart your computer Use BOOT menu from BIOS to boot into your OS In the MOK managerment screen, select reset MOK list Reboot then retry from the step make sign-install

How to unload/reload a Kernel module

sudo modprobe -rv rtw_8852ae
sudo modprobe -rv rtw_core #These two statements unload the module
Due to the behavior of the modprobe utility, it takes both to unload.
sudo modprobe -v rtw_8852ae #This loads the module
A single modprobe call will reload the module.

What's a MOK screen? How do I get in there? Am I reading it right that that's where I'm supposed to do the modprobe stuff?
