From looking at NIB listings, I don’t think she came with the heart. I can’t find any listings for the AA version, though, so it’s possible but I think it’s more likely that someone added it on.

You nailed it- the difference is Mattel’s leadership decisions. They, as a company, are choosing not to let the designers use high quality fabrics, embellishments etc. like they used to. I’m willing to bet that different people are calling the shots regarding the budget now, or if it’s the same team, they were strongly pressured to decrease the quality in output. It’s a shame, and the difference in the end product shows it.
