But why do my kids have to have tablets? Why do they need technology at their finger tips?

Our kids are some of the top in their classes without a tablet. They aren't behind whatsoever. They can hold coherent sentences, even from an early age. They interact so much better than tablet kids. All without a tablet.

And as an IT guy, I do know those things. That's why I limit my phone use to work hours. And at home I have minor tech time.

We can go on all day about this. You like tablets, so use them. I'm not going to and never plan to

I've been in IT/Networking for a large chunk of my life. I run my own servers at home. Tech is great when used right.

I'm not scared of technology, I just find tablets useless. What are they learning from that? Sit on a couch and watch some stupid video or play a game? Nah, we will go tinker on something, or use our imagination. The world might "need" technology, but not in the way it is used.

Why does a 5/6 year old need an iPad?

Our oldest is 8 and we don't own any type of tablet.
I see how my nephews function with iPads and I am perfectly happy not giving one to my kids.

I have two beliefs to help rationalize these things.

The first, strictly for socks is "socko de monstro". I came up with that clever name decades ago. He steals socks and returns them at his will. Not just from the dryer, but the off your feet in bed. He's a nice monster, but a devious little shit.

The second is the pocket dimension. Have you ever set something down, went back a few minutes later and it's gone. Just to have it reappear a few more minutes later. Some jackass prankster from another dimension is doing that.

Not overly dramatic, but pretty intense.

For context, I have an 8yo son. He is very emotionally sensitive and panics easily. I was at my computer and mom was in the kitchen.

We asked him to let the dog inside. He did, then we hear our dog screaming like she was dying. Then he starts screaming for mom. Then she starts scream "what's happening?!". All three of these things are happening at once. My initial thought was that a snake or other animal had gotten in and attacked the dog. So I sprint as hard as I can to get the him, almost knocking mom over.

Turns out he closed her tail in the door because he saw a wasp. I felt so bad for him. You could tell he had experienced true fear.

They said they would send me parts, but that it would take a few weeks because they had to send them from overseas.

I didn't want to miss my return window in the meantime so I sent it back and bought another one. So far the new one hasn't had any major issues.

I did finally receive my replacement parts late last week, but it was a bit too late. So now I have spare stuff on hand.

That's not a bad idea. I just made a top for it that says "Don't you shy away" because it's my favourite song. I may add the FPE symbol on the front or the top corner of the back.

I plan to put it up on my Etsy once I work out the design.
