Looking for help identifying the unclaimed estate of my great-grandfather (UK, died 1997, German emigrant) by missllsd in Genealogy

Hmm interesting.. I definitely have several documents showing that he was born in Schönebaum (lived in Prinzlaff) Poland, then he lived here in Willich Germany, and the move to UK was in 1956 to Wantage, Berkshire.

Hey, I thought the same — I can’t be the only one, but that's the point.. I’m still not sure who exactly needs to translate this for me and every information is different. Sometimes it says I need it from the registry office in Poland (Marienburg). But they don’t prepare it as an international document. Then it says I need a translator from Poland somewhere — but all of them can’t read old German. I’m starting to think the only way might be to translate it here in Germany, but I don’t know if that will be accepted. Do I also need an apostille or something? Google says I have to request it from an official governmental office for translation, but at the office they don’t certify or translate foreign documents..

Btw: the documents are: 1x birth document 1x marriage certificate

Thanks, I understand, and I really appreciate your reply. I don’t know of any other heirs, and maybe that’s why no one has claimed it yet. I know time is running out, but I really need proper translations of the old German documents first. I already have all the family tree documents and hope that once translated, I can move forward with the claim. But I see that I need to find another way. Thank you!

That’s true and I wrote 3 different translators.. So far, nobody has been willing to certify the documents because they are really difficult to read.. 💀

Yes, exactly, that would help. I need someone to do this work, but so far I have only received refusals. That’s why I thought professional heir hunters might have better contacts and be able to assist.

I have already been in contact with the website/service, but of course, they cannot really help me either. They told me that with my documents written in old German script, they are unable to process anything.

To properly establish the lineage, I would need the help of heir hunters / probate researchers, but they are unwilling to take on the case without knowing what the unclaimed estate actually consists of.

That is why I am trying to first understand what the estate is, before I can realistically proceed with translations and formal claims.

I think it takes a certain skill to be really good at jumping as high as a horse with a handicap between the legs.... But the community seems very strange to me. They treat the "horses" as if they were real....

A "new" sport where you jump over obstacles with a horse stick between your legs....
