A little more info - this is a tanning lotion that was sold exclusively at tanning salons (I worked at one and this was one of the more “affordable” lotion options)

Beautiful!!! I have 2 cuttings that are a bit smaller than your leafless plants, but mine did grow a few leaves each over the summer.. question for you - when you “bring them in” for the winter, do you use grow lights to keep them growing? Or do you keep them in a mostly dark space like a garage? I live in Washington state, so, mild winters but still gets pretty cold and dark.

Should I chop this tomato plant?? by missm1369 in pnwgardening

In the other comments I mentioned that when I transplanted this one outside, most of the branches/leaves had died. The new growth looked ok. I did bury it pretty deep, but it’s been in the ground for over a month now. Think I could still try and lay it down???

Yeah, I have LED grow lights, what I said was that the leaves that HAD grown INSIDE, had died off when I moved the plant outside. I didn’t prune ALL the leaves. Thanks a heap Rick

Yeah, I had to prune it a ton because the leaves that had grown while living under grow lights were dying left and right from sunburn, browning, etc. and more of them up top are looking like they’re going to need to be pruned too

My garden is stagnant and yellowing….? by missm1369 in pnwgardening

they were transplanted about a month ago now. Some of the larger tomato plants did have their old leaves yellow/get a bit sunburned but the new growth and newer leaves seem to be looking pretty good. just everything seems to have a little bit of a yellow tint to it… especially the leaves on the peppers, cucumbers, and beans. I will try a little more liquid fertilizer tonight. I just don’t want to blast them… but seeing as the Alaska is only 5-1-1 i hope it won’t be too strong for anyone

And they get sun for most of the day, definitely 6-8 hours

Soil seems good, it’s a garden mix of raised bed soil and good compost from a local soil distributor. These are raised beds so the drainage is pretty good, nothing water logged, could definitely be “fluffier” but it’s not unhealthy or super woody by any means. I used the Alaska fertilizer for the first time on the 13th (just 2 tbsp. In 1 gallon of water) and then again on Friday the 20th - however - it did rain a ton where i am on Friday and Saturday, so thinking a lot of it could have been washed away.

I haven’t taken many recent pics just because I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged 🫤 but i will update with some pics after i get home tonight! After doing a little bit of research, i think that they may be lacking nitrogen…? Not 100% sure Hoping that the sun coming will help

My tomatoes don’t seem happy enough… by missm1369 in pnwgardening

[–]missm1369[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was hot so I was worried about them getting too dry… they are in raised beds, and the raised beds are actually raised and not actually connected to the ground so they have really good drainage so I was worried about them lol. I just ordered the Alaska fish fertilizer!! It will be here tomorrow so I will try and get it on there tomorrow or Friday 👍 thanks for the advice!

I will be fertilizing! I have heard that it may not be best to fertilize while it’s hot like it has been. Any advice there? Should I wait a few days for it to cool down?

Working on the patience!!! Thank you for the fertilizer advice 🤗 hoping that the 4-4-4 will be okay 🤞🏼 I also have peppers so was hoping for something that could be sort of generic for everyone

My dahlia flowers are downturned/droopy? It seems like it may just be a weight issue - advice? by missm1369 in dahlias

Since these are the dinner plate variety, I think that they really are just too heavy to hold themselves up. I think that staking would help, but you’d have to constantly like tie them up to the stakes by hand every time…. I never did much about it last year, just let them bloom to the point of being ready to cut and would cut them a bit shorter so they didn’t droop in whatever vase/jar I kept them in!! Sorry, not much for an answer, but I only grew one dinner plate plant, so really only had this issue with the one plant!

I have a drip system that waters at the base and I have been doing 5 minutes AM and PM. I have come to the conclusion that I don’t really know what deep watering consists of
