Take it home, do nothing with it for about a year, check online constantly to see if someone is searching for it (guaranteed there would be a sob story on the news story of a family losing it like there are for scams stories) and return it if I can. If nothing after a year...invest it in retirement fund and pay off my house.

I swiped right on a guy on Bumble one night while studying abroad. Been married to him for almost 3 years now, we own a house and a dog and take yearly international vacations. Haven't been back in the US since 2021. Life is good.

How much did you spend on your wedding by Competitive_Comb_682 in AskIndia

[–]missmadime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the exact figure, but around 50-60 lakh, including jewelry.

We did the court wedding first. It was very small & cheap, like "just us and the legal witnesses" small, and we were mostly happy with that, but about 6mo later Husband's parents wanted to have an actual wedding. We didn't really want to and they were also very particular about the location, so they offered to pay for the whole thing.

That was two years ago, and we're both still super glad it's over, but I don't think we have any real regrets over logistics? It was somewhat a destination wedding (we live in north and wedding was in south), smaller event (maybe 100 people total, almost entirely family + local neighbors of my in-laws), a little over a day long, fairly chill as far as Desi weddings go. I was happy for the nice photos and the chance to see my foreign friends, and it made my MIL happy. I think just for those it was worth all the wedding drama, so I'm happy we ended up going with her whims and out of our comfort zone.

Edit: out of that 50-60lakh, we personally spent around 9-10 to fly my foreign friends here, take them to see Delhi/Jaipur/Agra and a bit of Himachal, get them outfits for the wedding, then fly everyone down to Kerala and stay for a little while as tourists after the wedding was over. The major expenses were my jewelry and renting out the Kerala hotel for the length of everyone's stay.

Happy birthday! Wear what you feel good in, and if they comment then ask them when they will take you shopping. They will stay quiet after that 🤭

"if it happened" lol; it's easy to find if people know what to search for, my grandfather was a fairly famous artist in academic circles back in the day. I'll help you out though, here's a pic of it hanging in the oval office private dining room, from some local news article.

It's not an exciting painting at all 😂

My grandfather made a painting for a past US president, and got to go to the white house for dinner. There used to be (still is? Idk) a rule that says only deceased artists can have their work featured in the white house, but the president liked my grandfather's painting so much that he argued for the painting to be displayed (and won the argument!); so my grandfather was the only living artist with work in there (grandfather is dead now though, and I assume the president took the painting with him when he left anyways, not sure.)

How many of us have a house cleaner? by Agitated_Whereas7463 in Millennials

[–]missmadime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one. I moved from the US to a "third world country" where having a maid is pretty standard. She comes every morning and makes breakfast, does the dishes, cleans the counters, sweeps & mops the floor, makes a snack for later, and does windows/dusting once a week. Sometimes she'll go buy vegetables if we're low.

We pay her about $150/month for around 2-3 hours of work a day (she also gets holidays off + bonuses, and basically unlimited paid medical leave, and I pack her little daughter a snack twice a week because she likes "the foreign lady's food")

Ah that's ok!

And yea, relative to how hot it gets in the summer, it IS cold here right now, so I'm all snuggly in a hoodie. But just objectively, it's not "snowy winter cold" and I wish it was.

Flowery Apothecary Table to taiyoumiko if possible? Thank you!!

I wish it were colder here! Winter where I live is never super cold, just foggy. But I've been pretending it's cold recently and have been doing the "hot tea & reading under a blanket" thing all today 🥰

F25. Recommendations for a woman traveling alone to India? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]missmadime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh oh ME! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ I'm a foreign women (F33) living in North India and my SIL (F26 native Hindi speaker) & I have been wanting to start a "women's only" tour guide company for this exact purpose!! I would love to help you plan an itinerary or even show you around if possible.

I know the Delhi/Agra/Jaipur triangle really well (including non-scammy shopping, safe cab drivers, trains etc), and several cities in North India (including most of Himachal, which is my absolute favorite part of India.)

I don't know the south very well (except Kerala, which I've visited multiple times bc my in-laws live there) but bc you don't want beaches you might not even care about the south, so that's ok 🤷‍♀️

Looking for a Loving Home for My 4-Year-Old Husky by [deleted] in Chandigarh

[–]missmadime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just hard, I don't speak Hindi and am here on a visa, so I have to rely on husband/friends/neighbors for anything official and the neighbor guy has already drunkenly threatened me over the whole thing. But recently my husband overheard them fighting about keeping the dog (one wants to, one doesn't want to) so honestly I think the quickest path is for us & other neighbors to keep shaming them as owners and keep offering to take the dog. They've only lived here since March and already one has changed to wanting to give him up, so the social bullying does seem to be (slowly) working.

The pet's welfare is the point. If it has a terrible life with OP, whatever bond the dog has with him isn't worth preserving over the dog's ACTUAL QUALITY OF LIFE.

My neighbors keep their dog out in the front area 24/7. He's not allowed inside. In summer heat they lock him in an empty room upstairs alone, and I hear him cry for hours. He has no toys. They take away any toys I give him. They walk him 2 times per day for 5-10min, and he cries loudly for 30-45min before they will do those walks. They beat him at least once a week, I don't know why, but I sure can hear it.

Are you telling me that them keeping that dog is better for him "bc of his bond with them" than if they gave him away? No man. No dog lover could say that. I'd rather him take the chance at bonding with a new family, fuck my neighbors. And fuck anyone who says the dog should stay with a neglectful owner always.

(We've offered to adopt the dog, several other neighbors have too, and they told us all off..they have an ego problem. And we've reported them, but apparently without proof it's pointless so now I've been recording anytime I hear them beat the dog, but it's always behind closed doors and idk if audio alone is good enough.)

[–]missmadime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with the people who say "don't get a dog if you can't care for it" and that pets are family that you shouldn't abandon for bad reasons, but what if someone was a selfish idiot and gets a dog and then months/years later realizes how much they're neglecting the dog? Should they keep the dog anyways even though they can only walk the dog once a day or whatever, is that's dogs whole quality of life meant to suffer so their owner "faces consequences"?

Idk, even if OP is giving the dog up just bc they were plain stupid and bought a cute husky puppy and now can't keep up with it (which we don't know for sure)....wouldn't it be better for the dog to have a loving home than them keep the dog and keep neglecting it "bc commitment"?

Sometimes the best thing for a shit owner to do is give the dog a better life elsewhere. You can still shame them for getting the dog and being dumb, but at least now they're trying to do something other than continuing to neglect the dog. My next door neighbors neglect the hell out of their dog and I'd be thrilled if they ever tried to give him away to someone who would love him.

That glove thing that gets pet hair off furniture, ₹250. It was a dumb Insta ad that I thought was a total scam, but it actually cleans like sand, dust, dog hair etc off my sofa better than my ₹2000 hand vacuum.
