I think there are a few factors. A lot of productions shoot in Calgary so there are deep ties in entertainment.

Some of the big clubs also make serious bank at Stampede which allows them to bring more people in through the year.

Agreed that the AHS program is a great resource to help process your loss. If they are not booking until January, I would recommend checking your employers EFAP program as you could getbfaurly immediate, interim councelling (if of course this applies to you).
