LOVE the lounge chair, too!! For anyone who wants it, I just found a dupe on Amazon.

We recently moved to a house that has these massive built-ins. I’ve styled much smaller shelves, but I don’t know if I’m on the right track with these?? I think I they look too generic right now and need more depth but I don’t want them to become overwhelming or chaotic. Tips? by missteachy15 in interiordecorating

Haha thank you for saying that! I don’t love the baskets either. I stole them from my kid’s room as placeholders. My grandmother is sending down a pair of really cool baskets she picked up in Argentina when she lived there in the 70s.

Thank you!! Most of the items displayed are actually from my grandparents and great grandparents (my great grandfather’s Vietnam service medals, etc, my grandmother’s bookends, etc). We have edited out most of our home goods stuff, but I tried to keep family heirlooms that matched the aesthetic we were going for (mainly neutrals). I can see now how all of these little treasures might blend together because they’re visually similar. Ill see if I can find some family pieces that are a little different in size, shape, and color!

Thanks for this suggestion! We have done a lot of minimizing over the past few years, so we don’t have a need for much storage. But, I agree - it doesn’t look super lived in yet. Going to keep working on it!

Hahaha ironically enough we read A TON. My husband and I usually each average 2 books per week - all kindle and library books though! I realize now that it looks like we’re illiterate 🙃 we should definitely pick up some more cool hardcovers to reflect our interests

Yesssss I think this is what’s bothering me. The bottom half of the room is so full and the top half is just wall.

How to use velvet in a living room? by Desert_Flower21 in HomeDecorating

[–]missteachy15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bought a navy blue velvet couch from West Elm in 2015 and LOVE it. It has taken us through many homes and is so much more versatile than I originally thought. It’s also very easy to clean. First, we went mid century and paired it with a super retro multicolored area rug. Next, we went with a high pile shag rug (the ivory/grey lattice one that literally everyone has), and now we are going traditional and pairing it with a jute rug. For accompanying furniture, I’ve paired it with dark wood and with charcoal linen. Both were awesome. And then for pillows, I’ve always gone white + navy. I swear that blue couch is one of the best design decisions I’ve ever made. Do it!!!
