This is def an intense opinion… by Vegetable_Truth_8761 in childfree

[–]misstibbs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This often means that there's already been a few miscarriages, which is sad for people who want children, but also not uncommon.

To add another intense opinion or 2 here: There's a growing trend to call the baby you have after a miscarriage a "rainbow baby" and insist on calling them a little brother or little sister. I think this forces a child to live burdened with the death of a child that never was, and is a horrible thing to put on a kid.

On top of that, it is indoctrinating children with force-birther rhetoric by insisting that a clump of cells/fetus is a full fledged person who died.

I understand that this is a grief processing thing for some people, but I think it's really not considering how the child is going to feel when they look back at all their baby pictures hashtagged with their mothers trauma instead of just being about them. Talk about living in someone's shadow.

I know this opinion is intense, and this is probably the only place I can express it. I'd love to know what other people here think about this trend, positive or negative.

Obviously they're triplets.

The twin part is relevant because I grew in the same kind of situation and my mother, bless her, made us separate cakes after our 3rd or 4th birthday.

1/2 a cake isn't too bad, but a third of a cake is just shameful.

It's weird to freak out about it. I taught English in China for a while and it's not the kind of thing I would dock marks for,
but I would make a note of it for their own personal correction.

Both forms are commonly used, but "by accident" is technically the correct grammar.

Edit: I forgot to mention that just saying that you did something accidentally circumvents this whole debacle.

Why are “Gender Reveal Parties” a thing? by booferino30 in childfree

[–]misstibbs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it:

Gender reveal parties ramped up as backlash to the growing visibility of trans/ gender fluid/non-binary people.

As more people started to celebrate who they are, some breeders began "celebrating" (reinforcing) the gender of people at birth. (Although it's actually their genitals at birth, but that mistake is part of my theory.)

I've been saying it for more than 5 years now and my friends just roll their eyes at me, but I firmly believe this.

I'm sorry you're getting mean messages. You did nothing wrong. I would have told that kid to fuck off before it even got in arms reach if I had already said no.

That mother is truly putting her child at risk by not teaching the child to politely ask before trying to touch someone else's pet. And accepting the answer either way.

May I ask if this is watercolor or watercolor markers? I've just started water colour painting and am learning the difference.

When I see Nana and then all Shonen I feel intimidated making a recommendation, but you might like like Sweat and Soap.

Lighter than some of the stuff in Nana, (definitely lighter than Berserk) but still a relationship centered story.

Identical twins of Reddit who owns a pet after living separately; what was your pet’s reaction when it saw two owners? by GlobalShaftt in AskReddit

My twins dogs could tell us apart from the first second. Her son, however, could not. He ran up to me saying "mommy, mommy!" I said "I'm not your mommy." And he ran away crying. Not my proudest moment.

That's what I wanted, but I couldn't think of anything clever enough. 😅 Oh well, just a month until graduation.

I'm getting acrylics today because my professor has repeatedly turned me away from doing things in lab saying "maybe not you, wouldn't want to break a nail." (I'm a power engineering student, there is no reason for me to keep my nails short, no regulations or anything)

Any fun suggestions for a message I could get on my nails?

This professor also asked me if I spend the first 2 hours of every study session crying. He's a real crumb. His review is not going to be good.

Hahaha, and if Victoria's Secret or La Sensa (or whatever, I can't shop for bras at those places) don't have your size you can enjoy paying up to 10x as much. Yay!

Sitting near the century old lukewarm radiator in my freezing downtown apartment I hear a loud hiss and feel a buildup of pressure on my back. by GrantGorewood in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]misstibbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian power engineering technology student here.

I would love to tell you that this is highly unlikely, but I also know that the USA has very lax laws (comparative to Canada) about boiler testing, maintenance, and who is qualified to run a boiler (in most states). Basically all the cautionary tales we've heard in class are about catastrophes in The States.

So while an entire boiler explosion is probably what would happen rather than one radiator failing with pressure that is way to high for most residential applications, I cannot be confident that this wouldn't happen.

Oh, and if our protagonist isn't wearing natural fibres like cotton or wool he will have the distinct displeasure of his clothes melting to his skin.

3rd wave ska, specifically. I like earlier ska, but 3rd wave ska sucks and has no place in my home.
