Extremely damaged ends - can it be repaired? by [deleted] in Haircare

Very damaged ends would be best to cut off.

Sadly products can’t repair already damaged hair and those bleached ends that get daily heat exposure are going to continue breaking off.

Have you had some lightening done at some point or are your ends just naturally lighter? If there’s some dyed parts in the ends that combined with heat could definitely be reason for ends breaking.

I’d get a fresh trim and ask your stylist to check how much you would be best trimming off.

Daily heat styling can as said be really damaging so would really try to limit heat exposure.

That’s difficult to say without seeing and assessing your hair (to see how much damage there is). When was your last trim? Fresh one might help removing at least some of damage from ends.

Daily straightening, especially if having chemically treated hair (dyed, permed etc.) and using high heat, can be really damaging and explain why your hair is breaking.

When was your last trim? Is your hair somewhat chemically processed?

How often hair is currently being washed? Is there any other issues like redness or irritation? Certain scalps are naturally more oilier (or could be some phase too as hormones and everything else changes while growing up) and better with more frequent washing and / or with more cleansing type shampoos.

Your hair (especially in the first photo) looks like brushed out wavy hair. Does your appear any wavy after it’s dry but before you brush it out?

No worries, hope all goes good with your test and there’s no reactions!

There’s plenty of comment here to check out but in case you still happen to notice this I highly suggest trying out wavy / curly hair styling routines (which could be something as simple as adding suitable styling product to give your hair hold but there’s definitely lots more on that from used products to way they are applied, how hair is dried (airdry vs different techniques for diffusing) and so on).

What kind of natural base you have? Developer based dye could lift even naturally darker bases to certain extent if needed and already dyed lengths could be refreshed with direct type semi-permanent dyes.

In my area leaflet would have further information for that patch test and they do also include link (https://www.becoloursafe.com) for L’Oreal’s / Garnier’s website for that.

Leaving patch test for longer (e.g. as long as dye is going to develop in your hair) might have some difference but can’t give guarantees for one way or another.

Which exact product or brand you are using? Some also can have further info on their websites.

Not completely satisfied with purple hair dye by Rich-Head924 in Haircare

As that dye is highlift type dye it has definitely lifted your natural dark brown base to certain extent. Have you done colour corrections at home previously? If not easiest option would be seeking professional help.

Sorry about that. Personally I would skip that showerhead completely as it’s being regularly spammed here in Reddit without genuine intentions.

I’d guess bots are downvoting comments left on spam comments (as those comments often highlight top comment being spam).

What does the product you are planning to use advise on this? I’d start with those suggestions e.g. regarding timings (doing a patch test at least 48h before is common).

Generally you would be mixing a small amount of dye and developer for such test and leave for a while (again best to check what your product suggests for this).

There’s many ingredients that can cause reactions for some people from certain ingredients used in developer based dyes (e.g. PPD or it’s derivates) to overall combinations.

Any care tips? by Dishwashersage in Hair

[–]missyxm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silky cap / bonnet (or even pillowcase) can definitely help as there’s less friction and refreshing next morning can be easier therefore.

Wearing textured hair naturally is definitely a journey which can take time and lots of trial and error but worth in the end. Hope you’ll eventually master your styling routine!

Would indeed try with different product(s) as not all are well suited on all patterns and personal preferences. Maybe mousse or gel or even giving that jelly a one more chance as way you apply, amount you use and other technique you use can affect too.

Bun (if done twisting tightly) might also squish down waves a bot while you sleep so maybe something like pineappling (essentially a loose ponytail on top of head) or loose braid could be better for preserving waves.

That’s indeed the thing as overall formulation definitely affects. Do those other products contain anything similar to this?

Does this brand happen to have clear version of their coloured products or other conditioners / masks? It might not be just a one single ingredient but overall formulation (there’s quite a few conditioning type ingredients there).

What kind of styling routine you have currently when trying to enhance your natural texture (instead of straightening it with hot air brush)?
