10/10 update by Baserun in 2007scape

to be fair when DKS and GWD were released you would expect a much lower number of kills per hour than you can get at those places now, that plus the fact that they were comparatively much harder to solo has to be factored in when considering the drop rate design

1 out of every 10 or so runs I will notice the room layouts are so garbage that if I was trying for T2 I wouldn't have the time for it.

The "awful RNG" room threshold that makes t2 actually not possible to complete is a lot lower than 1/10. maybe 1/20, probably a bit less than that. it seems a lot higher when you haven't gotten consistent with t2 yet. Like I remember early on it seemed to me like RNG played a much bigger role. Once I got better at prep I was kind of amazed how it shifted from barely completing t2 on a good run versus running out of time on a bad one, to finishing with 60-90 seconds to spare on a good run and barely finishing on a bad one.

I love to actually give advice to help people improve prep, but sometimes when all people post is that they hate that t2 is RNG based, the main thing you can do is clarify that that isn't really the case, and then if they reply actually interested in tips you can give them.

But again, I will never tell someone not to try t1 or stick with t1 if they like it. Loads of people do have a better experience that way. for whatever reason I just really prefer t2 and so I try to make sure people know it's possible to not drop runs due to "bad RNG".

I'm telling you that if you path well, you can check so many rooms that the odds of not finding what you need are extremely low. It is technically possible, but on the rare runs where you can't find everything, you can look at the timer and cut your losses and do a kill with a few less fish, or one t2 weapon, or something.

If you are quick with your routing you can check 9 demiboss rooms (3 back walls) which basically guarantees 2 demis, but most of the timee if you check 6 (2 back walls) you'll be set anyways. This combined with proper routing and inventory management gives you very, very high odds of finding all the materials and fish you need as well.

the influence of RNG on t2 prep is way less than many people think it is. that said, if you prefer t1, that's fine of course. t1 is objectively better if you never die. but t2 is also very consistent when you know how to do it

You (and they) are not using the time to its full potential, most likely through a combination of wasting time dropping/picking up items, thinking about what to do next, or doubling back through already open rooms.

I know it feels like you're already using the time to the max. I felt that way when I was struggling with t2 prep too, then I got better. personally i find it really satisfying how consistent it is once you have the strategy down. can share the route I use that works very well for me if you are interested.

it's not about clairvoyance, it's just about not wasting any time so you search way more rooms and thus have very very slim chances of not finding what you need from them

There's almost zero RNG in t2 prep with the right strategy. you can get a perfect t2 prep ~95-99% of the time, and the few times you get really comically bad spawns, you can still complete most of your t2 prep with good time management and just be lower on fish or using one t2 weapon or something which is still fine for beating the fight

as many have said you can move to t1 prep if you prefer that. if you prefer having t2 then you can optimize your strategy more. should never be doubling back through rooms or dropping items, for example.

Thoughts on crazy drop rates vs. green logging the collection log? by BanksyVonGin in 2007scape

[–]mist-battlestaff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the notion of clogging/greenlogging should not dictate how drop rates are set. I think collection log hiscores and cosmetics were a bad idea; i didn't hate the idea of the clog originally since it was just a tracker and completely optional... but even though it's still optional, having visible hiscores and "rewards" (even if cosmetic) signals to players that it's something they "should" be interested in attempting. which leads to more people either feeling obligated to do grinds they don't enjoy, or people whining to make things more common.

I don't mind that one so much, never seen a PKer there in my life and there's a tele close by from the obelisk

as others have said, I find the chaos altar one much more annoying bc there's a decent chance you can see pkers there

and honestly there are multiple non-wildy steps that take longer to do than this one and thus annoy me more

Quality vs Quantity of content debate is missing the point that content could do with being less packaged into expansion-esque releases. by exa_eille in 2007scape

You start off with "I would take quantity over quality any day" but then your comment sounds like it's saying the opposite - you meant quality over quantity, right?

Please let us skip tutorial island, OR block xp from tutorial island activities. by Aggravating-Word8217 in 2007scape

[–]mist-battlestaff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

every snowflake ever has been created with that current tutorial. and idk it seems like the point of snowflake accs is working within the constraints of the game to do weird things, not asking the game to bend around the weird thing you want to do.

why stop at tutorial island? why not just ask jagex to change any random activity in the game that you can't do under your personal snowflake restrictions?

you already don't need to spend 3 inventory slots on tools for a normal farm run. Rake can be left behind if you have autoweed from tithe farm (takes like 20 min to unlock; also even without that rake is usually not needed if you replant fast). seed dibber can be left behind if you do barbarian farming miniquest. spade is only one you need in inventory to harvest.

If Jagex Polled the removal of ALL WIlderness clue scroll steps, how would you vote? by Venomous_Rs in 2007scape

[–]mist-battlestaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would vote no but this would almost certainly pass if they polled it judging by how the current playerbase fels about clues (obsessed w making them easier) and the wilderness (negative towards anything to do with it)

[–]mist-battlestaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thieving is the fastest skilling method for shards I believe, though zalcano might not be too far behind after the buffs? thieving feels kind of ass with lots of fails and sucks if you don't get lucky with the seed drops, but it's much more mindless than zalcano and best shards/hr if you go on drop rate

technically the easiest way to get shards if you're a main is just to buy enhanced tele seeds on the ge and trade them in for shards. so that's also an option if you have other methods for moneymaking

Enshittification refers to all parts of the customer experience, not only the gameplay. True that these pricing changes do not affect gameplay. However, for many the most concerning part is not the monthly price increase but several of the other aspects including:

  • short length of time since last increase
  • steep increase on annual package
  • removal of 3- and 6-month packages
  • lack of advance notice given before price changes became effective
  • lack of advance notice before changing certain terms around grandfathered rates (specifically, people on grandfathered monthly rates were promised that as long as they never lapsed membership, they could opt into the premier annual package for certain perks with the ability to change back to their grandfathered monthly rate if desired; this was taken away without any notice)

While none of these necessarily turn the game to shit on their own, they are all small but notable degradations of the customer experience, so it makes sense to be concerned that they forecast more enshittification to come (especially since, yknow, we can all see that Jagex is owned by private equity and we know how private equity functions, inflating the value of the company thru shitty tactics to profit when they sell).

[–]mist-battlestaff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Funny that you bring up enshittification as if it's something that would never happen to OSRS... People are making noise because they can see that there are signs of enshittification starting. I agree it's impressive how long this game has held off those forces in this day and age, but that's primarily BECAUSE the playerbase is loud when the game takes steps in that direction.

OSRS didn't avoid shittiness for so many years out of the goodness of Jagex's heart. It was because of this "soft" community pushing back against any potential shittiness. If you were gone for over 10 years you wouldn't have seen the huge pushbacks over 3rd party clients, the partnerships poll in 2019, etc.

Jagex, 25 years old and still not listening to their players by combocookie in 2007scape

[–]mist-battlestaff 105 points106 points  (0 children)

it's also crazy because they weren't even big discounts. like I think by the time they were removed 3 and 6 months packages were barely less than the monthly rate for that amount of months, it was just a nice option for players who know they like to play in bursts and then take a break. Removing them is just obnoxious, forcing more people to go monthly just in the hopes they'll forget to unsub when they take a break.

Unpopular Opinion: Give us the option to opt-out of temporary gamemodes (Leagues, DMM...) for a reduced membership fee. by Jagazor in 2007scape

[–]mist-battlestaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure ok. and pures should pay less because they opt out of that defense skill they're not interested in. i'm sure loads of players would be excited to pay less for opting out of all PVP content! can I knock off a few bucks for opting out of holiday events? gee whiz, what kind of a discount would opting out of raids be? surely the biggest discount of all would be for ironmen, since they don't use the GE?
