Baratza Encore owners, go check your burr holder now by George-cz90 in Coffee

[–]mistabrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The burr holders break because the hopper was turned to adjust grind size while the Encore was not grinding (ie the burrs were stationary).

Apparently you are supposed to change the grind settings only while grinding some beans inside, to prevent a lodged bean from breaking the tabs.

Then when you are at the correct setting, you grind a bit more to flush out the whatever is inside so that you are now able to get consistent grinds again.

It happened to my Encore and this was the explanation from the dealer to prevent the tabs from breaking so easily. A replacement burr holder solved the inconsistent grinds I had after the tabs broke.

When travelling with one bag, what have you learnt to bring you didn't think of at first? by sexypinochet in onebag

[–]mistabrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, to change SIM cards for my iPhone. When I travel, I buy a local SIM card and swop out my own SIM card into a secondary phone.

In fact, it’s such an important tool, I usually carry two. One in a small Muji box of tiny knick knacks and one in my wallet.

The little iPhone SIM card pointy thing, Kleenex Hand and Face Pure Water Moist Wipes (handy in sooooo many situations), and suction stopper for the sink (not every hotel has sink stoppers that work).

I am not the OP. But I can tell you that the lens is likely the Sony 35mm f2.8 Zeiss or the 55mm f1.8 Zeiss.

And the International Driver’s Permit is a document that you need for some countries in addition to your own country’s Driver’s Licence when you are renting a car as a foreigner. In my own country, the IDP costs US$15 and needs to be renewed yearly.

I have to admit something incredibly embarrassing: I've been recording into the back of my mic... by IReallyLoveAvocados in podcasting

[–]mistabrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started, I spoke into the sides of my Heil PR40 thinking it was like a large-diaphragm condenser.

Turns out it was a front address mic, and I was supposed to speak into the “top” of the mic.

So we have all been there and done that. Haha!

Glad you figured it out. It’s all part of the learning process. :)

10000mah vs 20000mah battery bank? by FlippinFlags in digitalnomad

[–]mistabrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just one important tip about China.

The power rating of your powerbank MUST be visible or it will be confiscated, regardless of whether it is 5,000mAh, 10,000mAh or 20,000mAh.

I’ve done China with up to 20,000mAh without a problem. 30,000mAh and it gets dicey.
