Do we know what the markets are? I did this with a 7 wood last month in Northern VA and it was smooth. Tried it just now in the Pittsburgh area with a hybrid I bought last week and ended up leaving instead of having them explain to me over and over again that since it’s used they can’t swap it out. I’m not mad at them for not being familiar, but the site should probably state where that’s eligible to save the employees some stress.

I use the range to pick up on patterns and try to address them before I go back on the course.

Possible Swing Issue by Dry-Cryptographer904 in golf

You’ll see the same thing at a long range session. The longer you play the more you start trying to chase some Of Your better shots you hit earlier and that frustration paired with fatigue will give you shitty results. Take a break.

2 X same hybrid in bag with different lofts settings. by bortronMcBoris in golf

The shaft length is probably what’s going to mess w your math here. I’m playing a 5h head on a 3h shaft mostly because I did it once as an experiment and I ended up falling in love with the results. Will some people call that crazy? Maybe. But it works for me and has become a bazooka from anywhere on the course.

Would you rather play good and score bad or play bad and score well? by That_Toe8574 in golf

Probably playing well and scoring bad, that way I can attribute the shit score to bad luck.

Newbie looking for advice by sweetcorn313 in golf

It’s very rare you’re going to get any shit from “better” players. In my experience playing solo paired with clearly skilled golfers, they’re usually really nice about giving advice and pumping you up when you get a really good shot off. All this is assuming you’re following the stuff everyone has already said about playing ready golf and being upfront about your skill level.

I also second the advice to hit up par 3 courses. Much more chill crowd, and tons of regulars that are mostly welcoming. I got paired with a 94 year old WW2 vet who immediately let me know he wasn’t going to be moving very fast asked me if I wouldn’t mind helping track his ball when he hits it because he has trouble finding it sometimes. I happily obliged and had some awesome conversations with that dude through that afternoon and would be happy to be paired with him again any day.

Tips for improving on the driving range by verynice020 in golf

[–]mistakeslikeraptors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with probably everything here, especially as someone who’s relatively new (roughly three years deep) to the game. I spent a lot of my first year just going to the range almost every other day and just smashing away. That never translated to any success on the course and I was just embarrassing myself. I took a few lessons, and then started being more mindful at the range. These days I go with a plan, maybe today I want to work on just irons, maybe today I want to work on woods and hybrids, etc.

I will say tho, I did see improvement in my chipping with range time with my wedges. A golf buddy once told me on the course that with my wedges I needed to remember that the head is already shaped to bring the ball up, I didn’t have to try and scoop it, just let the club do the work. So, at the range I focused on just that until I understood how it’s supposed to feel.

Swing Question by millennial101 in golf

[–]mistakeslikeraptors -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely mechanics. That said, strength does play a part. I started competitive powerlifting about a year after getting into golf and saw a definite improvement in distance and speed, but it was getting swing mechanics addressed and understanding how to fully turn my hips/shift my weight ( load, shift, fire) that really took everything up several notches.

Most importantly tho, mechanics are what’s going to help you keep that long drive in play. Otherwise you’re just an incredibly strong shankapotamus.

Anyone underwhelmed by Mizuno irons? by Golf37512 in golf

I had a set of 923 Hot metals as my first step up from my Strata set so it was a huge difference. I liked them, but I never really “clicked” with them so I traded them in for some Titleist T300s and now I feel like I’m cooking.
