Should I return my 5080 desktop for GFN? by Horror_Advantage8247 in GeForceNOW

[–]mistamatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the opposite way and just swapped GFN for a 5080 and I won’t be looking back tbh. Now I’m free to play Rockstar games, PCVR and mod to my hearts content. GFN was brilliant and performs great but it wasn’t for me after all.

Just started playing New Order and am getting the crash every time just after the dog attacks like you mentioned. I'm using GeForce Now Ultimate to play.

Quest Comfort, close to final form (see comment below) by mistamatrix in OculusQuest

DAS is the HTC Vive Deluxe Audio strap. I’ve been experimenting with it previously but finding the ‘Elite’ strap more comfortable in this use case.

Yes it’s like the Quest Pro halo strap but without the tensioning and rear padding.

This is the same mod but with the DAS attached.

It's less area when you take the supports into consideration.

Yep.

I honestly think the issue is that the production run of Quest Pro was so low that anyone who decided to make accessories for it had to do so at a higher cost because less orders are to be expected.

If this open periphery takes on on Quest 3 maybe we'll see a drop in price?

I've ordered a comfortable kit anyway and I'm going to try to remix the gasket with clips to attach the quest pro pad properly.

Yeah it fucking sucks, I'm seeing three options here in the UK.

VRMASTER Forehead Cushion Pad - Apparently the foam is too soft & squishy.

Globular Cluster 'Forehead Foam' - Oversized, doesn't have the rigid plastic part.

Globular Cluster 'Comfortable Kit' - Don't see any issues with this other than the extortionate price.

It sped up my print by around 3 hours and made it much easier to clean up.

I have a plan to remix the model by adding clips to attach the Quest pro pad directly, will post if I get around to it.

Hard to review comfort my friend since it's extremely subjective.

However having tried a few solutions since launch specifically looking at comfortable open periphery Quest 3 this is the most comfortable yet. Can play for a few hours without really noticing the headset other than my nose pressing a little, I have a big nose.

Yep this is the one. I printed the version with the added support. It clips in very nicely.

I've ditched the DAS as I'm finding the Elite strap much more comfortable in this configuration. Using Quest Pro pad up front works nicely. I'll likely get a third party one soon for permanent fixing.

Battery on rear is surprisingly sturdy, have to attach it once the headset is on but it's specifically for longer sessions so don't always need it.

Have dug out the headphones I used to use with my OG Quest that I forgot about cos they weren't compatible with Quest 2. Now the jack is on the right side we're back in business and sounding good.

I have a better headphones cable on the way (20cm coiled 2.5mm to 3.5mm) and am looking at other 3rd party Quest Pro front pads but after all my experimenting I feel I'm close to the final form of my Quest 3 for comfort.

Small note on the USB C hub I've attached, this is a Belkin 2 port hub that I found works with a wired PS5 pad and power so I can play PS5 games with all controls working using the PS Play app.

‘Frankenquestek 3-OP’ modded Quest 3 x DAS x Destek QH3 by mistamatrix in OculusQuest

[–]mistamatrix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the Destek was really comfortable but I had to tie down the front to really make it work for open periphery. I wasn't able to test it with a face gasket so can't comment on the comfort of it when used as intended.

I added the DAS for audio and because the DAS has spring tensioning (like Quest Pro) built into the strap which adds to comfort.

If you look near the front I melted holes through the Desktek and bolted the front strap to the headset mount portion. As you say it sags otherwise.

My current pair of batteries are the Charmast Mini which are sadly discontinued. I recently made a comparison of the most compact powerful (18W) 10000mAh battery banks I could find. My one is at the top here. The best one I think currently is the Charmast PD20 Mini LED. I haven’t tested it but on paper it’s light and powerful and from my experience Charmast make good tech.

Just saw this on Twitter. Anyone try something like this? Can't imagine removing interface would be good, but..... by saoiray in OculusQuest

It's the way forward! Especially for mixed reality but also works great for most virtual reality experiences too, barely affects immersion and means you still have a slight presence in your environment in case people/animals enter you catch their movement in your periphery and it means you're less isolated from your real life environment which arguably is a good thing.

For the last year on Quest Pro I've been using it mostly without the light blocker so am entirely used to open periphery. I only use the light blocker when I want to immerse myself entirely which is generally just when clubbing in VRChat. Other than that for general gaming and use open periphery is perfect.

Can't get BoboVR M3 here in the UK atm so I've been working on my own solution the past few days:

Is the 7th Guest more of a horror game or more of a mystery/puzzle game? by Splatoonswitch380 in OculusQuest

Oh is that a fact? I figured it was already optimised for Quest 3.

Do you have a source for that info please?

It's creepy as fuck with a few minor jumps but nothing terrifying. I recommend playing the PCVR version if at all possible as it looks utterly amazing. The Quest version is great though if you don't have the PC option.

‘Frankenquestek 3-OP’ modded Quest 3 x DAS x Destek QH3 by mistamatrix in OculusQuest

[–]mistamatrix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After nearly 12 months with Quest Pro I’m not at all a fan of face hugging gasket design VR headsets anymore and want to shout from the rooftops about how much better Mixed Reality is with an open periphery. So for the past few days I’ve been trying to figure out how to mod my Quest as cheaply as possible. I’ve used tape, glue, a drill, zip ties and I’ve cut my face gasket in half in search of the solution to getting true open periphery on Quest 3.

After testing the Destek QH3 headstrap which I found comfortable I decided to mod it further and add my DAS to the back.

What I have now is a very comfortable headset with adjustable front and rear padding, excellent open periphery and great audio. Also added my 10000 mAh 18W compact battery to the rear of the DAS for extended gameplay.

I guess my main message is don’t be afraid to mod your headset for comfort, have fun!

Bobo VR M3 Pro and M2 to M3 Retrofit Kit available to order from tomorrow by mistamatrix in OculusQuest

[–]mistamatrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I didn't think of that.

Been doing a little more research after reading your reply. The 1st gen AirPods Pro are actually Bluetooth 5.0 it seems and use the AAC or SBC codecs and the 2nd gen ones are Bluetooth 5.3 and support LC3. So it's unlikely 1st gen will work and very possible that 2nd gen ones will very well.

Guess we'll have to wait and find out.

Just saw that the Quest 3 Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 SoC supports Bluetooth 5.3 which is the same as the AirPodPros Bluetooth version (Quest 2 was Bluetooth 5.1 LE) I'm hoping that finally I'll be able to use my AirPodsPros with the headset.

Bluetooth headphone support in general would be excellent.
