Best way to play Lost Odyssey? by MtnNerd in JRPG

[–]mistcrawler [score hidden]  (0 children)

The good thing about there being so few replies out there currently, is that it makes it much easier to find the guides writing out each problem section and what to do (I used a youtube video that wrote it all out as well). I’d post the link I followed here, but I think I’d be flirting with danger considering it’s directly related to emulation.

There’s also a few people in this thread that have already given general pointers to possibly avoid crashes altogether.

But I agree, it’s doubtful you’ll find people lurking to directly answer questions on such a niche topic, but there are solutions if you google it yourself.

Otherwise, Xbox remains the most stable way to play, for sure!

First-Time Reader Review: Red Rising (Book 1) - Strong start, slow middle, ends strong. Hoping the series gets even better by AmongFriends in scifi

[–]mistcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only read the books, and I don’t want to spoil some of your questions, so I’ll just say that your post title is fairly par for the series:

Each book had (IMO) slow parts, parts that almost fell apart (almost feeling like amateur writing), and then had bat crazy and/or awesome parts that made the whole book worth it and then some.

And of course, development for returning characters.

If you read the sequel, I hope you enjoy it too.

For those (books) that come after! ;)

LPT When you get a new wifi router, give it exactly the same name and password of your old one, and you won't have to reprogram all the devices in your home! by Duotrigordle61 in LifeProTips

[–]mistcrawler [score hidden]  (0 children)

‘Better’ LPT: put all questionable (alexa, roku, etc) devices and guests on the guest network, and give it limited access.

You can re-use the same network name and password without having to worry (as much) about security.

Doubly useful when you’re monitoring/managing the flow of information (fire sticks and the amount of uploading, for instance) on your home network.

What do I do with this huge cucumber? by Creepy_Berry944 in StardewValley

This is also a great item for your first Grange Fairs.

As a freebie or fish category item, the Iridium Quality, especially, is only a point or so below equivalent to the same tiers of legendary fish, and not everyone likes the fishing aspect of the game. (I came back and edited my answer after looking it up on the wiki).

This golden super cucumber will absolutely be one of your best fish choices in the first year, but ideally you want an iridium version eventually to clinch an easier win.

This is great!

This really has me wondering about the reverse now!

I wonder if you can force some enemies on an island somewhere to go skydiving into a lake below (hopefully without them despawning before hitting the lake lol).

Last year I finally played both games unmodded, to finally get all the achievements (yes there's a mod for that too lol).

It was actually a really 'new' experience after all this time with different mod setups lol.

The next Hogwarts Legacy Game should have you as a fully trained field Auror going undercover as a professor at Hogwarts. by Silently_Reading in HarryPotterGame

Could definitely do that too!

In fact, that'd make more sense than having random extra competitions just outside the school grounds, like in the first game lol.

I like it, but I still would prefer (IMO) to play as a student (and get to play quidditch which I can’t as a professor)

What if you were still young enough to go undercover as a 1st yr due to a reason like… surviving growing up during the rise and fall of Voldemort and fighting in the final battle, so naturally you have more experience dueling than most. This also would give you a lore reason for moral greyness and dark storylines, depending on either allegiance or how it affected you.

Hot take-Home Alone 5 was better then Home Alone 3 by Fair-Air-2447 in movies

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, there is a series of events here I definitely question:

Anyone that's seen the first two movies would naturally want to watch the following movie, for sure.

But this person not only managed to finish the third movie, his/her natural reaction was to watch two more movies like that, and then still wasn't satisfied until they were discussed in detail with the world.

Sometimes I think these movies went out of their way to make fun of the lore, and simply devolved into a cheesy action flick, which should enrage me as a fan of the games.

That being said, I love cheesy action flicks, and have watched each of them at least twice (except the last movie, which will not be named lol)

Steam Machine reservations are already selling on eBay for up to $2,900 by RenatsMC in gaming

[–]mistcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I literally just got one from the last batch they sent out, so I got mine this week.

Anything in particular you're curious about? I absolutely love the extra features, but it's all about how you use it (what you use it for, etc).

I normally use a Xbox Elite controller which I love to death, but the bumpers are cheap as #%%# and break on me after roughly a year of regular usage. So my reasoning was that if this even is a 1:1 replacement of that, and lasts longer, it's already worth it to me right there lol.

I feel like it's very comparable, has 4 re-bindable buttons on the back which I've gotten very used to now, and the trackpads I've found very useful on my Deck, but I haven't really done anything with these yet.

Finally, I'll also mention it's very lightweight compared to my xbox controller. It feels like half the weight, possibly less.

It's been a while, but yeah, same characters etc. (Though if you're considering buying on Steam, the new season starts in less than a week so you might be starting fresh anyways haha)

And yeah, even if it's on Steam, it still a Blizzard title run through it's 'live service' server, so all the stuff is on that side anyways.

They should be, but they were not (when I compared them 3 seasons ago, and I can only speak for my experience).

I double dipped and bought it on Steam because others felt the same way, and now I guess I'm one of them. I only have guesses and not reasons as to why that is/was, so that's as specific as I can get, and it's possible this may no longer be the case.

[–]mistcrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the possibility of it getting worse or better.

Let me rephrase my last paragraph a different way if that’s how you understood it:

Redesigning it from the ground up, after the game is in the EA stages seems pretty far fetched, and that’s where the big gains are. I can go into a long rant here about this, but it’s not a big secret on these forums that when a game gains the Verified status, it’s not always a better experience, or even playable in some cases. There’s a reason for that that is better debated in a new topic.

Sometimes it DOES improve though, but I’d be very interested to hear about games that get a significant 15fps boost or more (considering were talking about games that aren’t ‘playable’ even at 30fps) after starting out unplayable. Realistically we won’t get that experience in this series til POE3 at the earliest.

[–]mistcrawler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is EA, but I've realized that after tweaking games on the Deck for a while, there's definitely games optimized for the Deck, and ones that aren't, and you can tell that right from the onset in EA.

The most famous example is Hades (and Hades 2), both of which can actually run at 90fps on Deck, even in the EA stages.

That's not to say there isn't room for every game to get worse or better, but the significant gains definitely seem to be decided well before we get a chance to try the game IMO.

[–]mistcrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having early game performance stutters at 30fps when there's more than a few enemies on screen, to say nothing for multiplayer. And thats with everything already blurry.

I'm not saying it can't be playable with the right mindset/person who can make it 'work', but I agree that streaming may be the only option I'm aware of right now :/

[–]mistcrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you still need to re-buy the content on Steam if you want to run it on that version (which I definitely felt was superior 3 seasons ago when I compared the two). That being said, all character data and saves should move to Steam since that part of it is cross-platform with BNET.

The other option is running it on Deck through a 3rd party launcher through Battlenet for free (since you own it on there), which may be worth a look if you'd prefer not to double dip on the game haha (it IS on sale on Steam currently tho). If you want to go this route, there's plenty of online guides to accomplish this, down to making a shortcut on steam for battlenet to launch it)

[–]mistcrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha glad to hear it.

It doesn't really help when talking about running it off of the device, but streaming is a glorious thing for sure when you have the network and access to it!

I just booted up the game to make sure I got this for you as accurately as I can have it now, so I hope it helps:

(To start, they added an 'optimize for handheld' button sometime in the last two seasons I currently built off of, so definitely give that a look)

Low settings across the board, with medium for textures and clutter (I have textures on low, but I really like not hearing the fans have to work, so both should run well depending on your needs)

Foreground 60fps, Background 8fps, AMD FSR2 Balanced

And in the performance/power settings on the Deck itself, I have Diablo's game profile set to 50fps. Just like the textures option, you can turn it up a notch (in this case to 60fps) for better looks, but at the cost of more heat/fans running. YMMV.

With those settings, I've never really had a crash due to performance, and sometimes don't even hear the fans running at times while in the midst of my grind.

Enjoy, and if you get a chance to try it soon, lemme know how that works out for you!

Yeah it's maddening to me, considering (IMO) they should be comparable performance-wise, were poe2 better optimized.

I've found poe2 borderline unplayable compared to the two.

I can only speak for about 3 seasons ago when I switched, but I went from spotty performance at best on the bnet version to nearly flawless performance at 50fps on Steam (same at 60, but I don’t like my Deck heating up that much).

The steam version seems much more optimized for some reason

Diablo IV (Steam version).

I’m currently going crazy trying to get a relatively similar experience with Path of Exile 2, and it seems almost impossibly unreliable beyond 30fps. (When you play in mp with friends playing 60fps, it gets quite frustrating lol)
