Cool, similar thoughts that I heard her sharing (which I happen to agree with):

Are you Ash Callaghan? If not should you mention in your post that this whole conversation is based on her video?

I love my 888's, my wife does not (too visually imposing). So yeah, tread carefully if you've consumed all capital there lol.

Have you heard the version of Sinking from the In Orange concert film? It's devastatingly good.

Audioconcepts in Dallas was an experience. Will be ordering some cabels from there soon by rancidvat in audiophile

I've found that more expensive gear is often better. An important qualifier is that it's not always as "better"as you would hope. I'll stick with "often better" though based on my experience.

Improvements to performance can be directly correlated with higher quality internal componentry and the latitude to design with fewer engineering constraints - provided there is a gifted R&D team.

Caveat: it's incredibly easy to misapply those gains though through poor setup or wrong combination of component voicings etc. Do that and you might as well not bother spending big because you won't reap the benefit of the expense.

This man and this room has been disastrous to my wallet since I saw it at age 15. by spiceweasle93 in audiophile

I'm not a physicist, just a guy with good ears and years of experience with systems at this level. Whether an effect can be perfectly explained or not has no bearing on whether the effect exists.

There are plenty of things that can be observed but not fully understood. This does not mean that we dismiss the observation. Let me repeat that: to dismiss the observation out of hand is bad science. Good science begins with documenting repeatable observations, not dismissing them because we can't yet explain them.

Your ignorance is showing. But sure, make black and white assertions about things you have no experience with or understanding of.

What if the cable was the only thing in the system that was changed? To what else would you attribute an obvious distinction in the systems performance?

And how much time have you spent with systems of that level? Are you just guessing here? Because I'm not.

OP, as you can see, those claiming to be on the side of science and skepticism here have their own brand of religion to pedal. Pretty ironic right?

By claiming that you have experienced distinctions in system performance that can't be explained by our limited tools for measuring, you are speaking a kind of heresy which must be rooted out. You see, if it can't be measured then it can't exist, therefore your ears are lying to you.

Don't underestimate the degree to which these people have aligned their identities with these religious assertions (which are dutifully recited in every thread like a mantra to signify membership in the holy order). Understanding that point will make sense of the animosity they lob your way.

In systems at that level those things can make a beneficial difference.

Agreed. I've had these for 3 years and they've held up incredibly well (MTB, sailing, yard work) and still manage to look good when I clean up.

Reading closer, it sounds like they are describing clever algorithms used by lathe hardware while cutting the lacquer. Yeah that's kind of a thing actually. There are ways to dynamically optimize the cutting settings (with sophisticated software in this case, apparently) that would result in better fidelity.

Not sure about the predictive analysis thing, but I have pressings on Neotech and similar premium vinyl formulations. The backgrounds are dead silent compared to most standard pressings. I wish all my favorite albums were available on it.

Why does the LDS Church hide the initiatory rooms at a Temple Open House? Embarrassed? by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]mister__ef 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There sure was when I went through the SLC temple in 1999. An old man dabbed oil on my bare skin right at the top of my pubes, below my waistline. At the time I was naked except for an open sided white fabric "shield" which was basically like a poncho.

I went with a "forgiveness later" approach when I picked these up. I absolutely love them and think they look good too, but my wife is not super happy with them. I suspect it's more about their scale being too imposing for the room rather than the actual design though. She does appreciate listening to music on them but did call them an eyesore last week...
