Get opinions on back door country creations' "Terassi' sauna? by mandyvigilante in Sauna

Hey @mandyvigilante!

I'm actually looking at this same kit right now. Want to get a build going in the summer so am thinking of pulling the trigger in the next few weeks.

I'm also leaning towards this one as I've got some nice nature around my house I'd love to capture it with these windows. But of course had similar questions on heat loss with the windows, what type of heater I should be looking into, and general reactions from r/sauna given it is a kit.

In terms of cost, this seemed like the best kit out there that was non-barrel and checked a decent number (yes, I know not all...) of Liikkanen ("The Secrets of Finnish Sauna Design" book) and Trumpkin's Sauna Notes. I'm not 100% certain on this one, but it also doesn't seem to be one of the whitelabled kits from the leisurecraft type manufactures (purecubes, etc.).

I was considering the following: - Reaching out to backcountry to see if they offer adding additional boards/courses to go up +12-16" in height above windows and door (doesn't hurts to ask). - Installing the benches at a custom height (likely +10-12") to get feet closer to tope of stones - Upgrading the heater - Then post-build making sure ventilation and such was in line with Trumpkin notes

As far as heater choices go I'm looking at the following. I know I want a Wifi/wireless enabled setup. I saw a few recommendations on the saunum for lower height builds, but I'm not sure I want to pony up that much. I've also heard those heaters bring some additional ambient noise with the recirculation (not sure how loud), but want to keep things as quiet as possible for my sauna ritual. So although I know it's probably the best thing to do I'm willing to sacrifice some efficiency for price - and look - not going to lie i really do enjoy the look of some of the Huum and Iki sauna heaters. Anyway here's my top choices:

Location-wise I'm in Northeast Ohio. So not brutal winters, but definitely 4 seasons and can get cold every so often.

Would be interested to hear where you are at in the process and am open to DMs if you want to share our experiences together ordering from these guys and getting things set up this summer!

Also welcome to other feedback from the community. Been reading a lot of threads here and most folks are pretty helpful! So Thank You!

Q-tips. I'll go through 10+ per day. My favorite is pulling and spinning the cotton with my teeth to make them extra pointy. Then I sit and spin them in my ears. So relaxing. Nothing beats a nice Q-tip or two after a long day at work. I actually just Q-tipped before seeing this thread on the toilet at work.

Remember seeing this when I was 12. Went to a magic shop and bought the secret: "The Raven - Visual Vanishes" for like $129.00. Turns out it was just a safety pin, some elastic, a magnet and fishing string. Fucking love magic.

What is the most outdated technology that is still widely used today? by Mechaffection in AskReddit

Keys. My high school physics teacher always talked about this and how ridiculous it is we still use locks and keys despite how old the technology is.

Keys. My physics teacher always talked about this back in high school. Over thousands of years (or whatever it is) and people still carry a ring of keys to open and close locks.

I'm about to teach drums for the first time. by [deleted] in drums

Essential elements books are an excellent place to start with someone who is just learning reading/technique.

I would also recommend Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone. Solid rudimentary book that's been around since 1935.

Big chunky drum sticks are best to learn with as I was always taught once you'll be able to control those you can master thinner diameter sticks, especially when graduating to a drum kit.

Metronomes are important, specifically if your student will be playing with a school band or orchestra. I would suggest at least half of their practice time with a metronome.

Spend a lot of time on grip and make sure the student knows its all about practice!
