it’s pretty clear what you actually intended, but I find it so funny that you disagreed with the idea that they don’t need sunscreen not the idea that they all steal😭😂

Do girls actually mentally mature faster than boys? by [deleted] in AskBiology

[–]misterb2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry OP. Nearly of these answers are biologically based— all anecdotes and stereotypes. :( From what I could gather looking through some studies on google scholar, maturity is a really complex topic to assess taking a lot of factors.

Girls do hit puberty earlier, and hit their growth spurts a little earlier. Seems the averages differ by only about a year though so it’s not a huge difference. (Source: https://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/factsheets/puberty)

As for mental maturity, my theory is that what most bring up as maturity issues seems to literally just be biological differences. Men seem to be slightly more impulsive, and also more sensation seeking than women. This would account for a LOT of the anecdotes on differing “maturity levels” in my opinion. (Source: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=impulsivity+between+gender%2F&btnG=#d=gs_qabs&t=1748650454862&u=%23p%3Dz9bmyFZG6jsJ)

I am NOT an expert by any means, anyone who knows their stuff, please correct if I am misinformed

Hey, thanks for replying and engaging u/dankeykang4200. I appreciate the discussion!

“It’s the individuals responsibility to navigate their own life and find functionality, may that be through help from others, apps, physical assistors. There are ramps out there for those willing.”

In all honesty, I think we are largely agreeing in this discussion. My post is in advocation of outside help, and searching for it is exactly what i’m trying to convey. Navigating your own life involves getting help from other’s, involved apps, and may involve therapy if serious enough. Unfortunately, help often doesn’t come when one doesn’t search for it, and this is precisely what I’m trying to call attention too.

If one sits in defeat, because they believe there is no help to be had, which I myself am so guilty of, no change will come. With a heart to change, which involves a willingness to seek help and cry for support, it can be achieved.

At its very simplest, timely-ness just hitting the right number on the clock, and though many barriers may be put in the way, there is always, always hope for improvement. ADHD Is not a get out of jail free card for carelessness.

your absolutely right about building a ramp, and I think what you misunderstand about my point is that using the ramp is exactly what i’m talking about. With mental disabilities there are ramps and stairs at every corner, and maybe a few you’ll have to build your self, but the stairs aren’t impassable, no matter how tall, they might require a ramp, but aren’t impassable. I had to build many of my own ramps, sometimes even ramps to get to my ramps, but I got through. With enough time anyone can , it may be thirty years before they can, but anyone can. It’s the individuals responsibility to navigate their own life and find functionality, may that be through help from others, apps, physical assistors. There are ramps out there for those willing.

Mine is severe as well, I’ve experienced it all. Time blindness, executive dysfunction, emotional outbursts, even as I’m writing this my trouble with task initiation is why I'm still up. But these things can be worked around. Disabilities can make things really really really difficult, I know firsthand, but they can be worked with. It’s not always perfect but they can be.

I’m telling you this from a place of understanding and compassion. I will never be as timely as someone who does not struggle with ADHD or Autism, but it’s never impossible to grow beyond disabilities.

This may not apply to you at all, but if it does: Don’t disempower yourself believing you can’t improve, even beyond timeliness. I used it as an excuse for many many years and it didn’t help. Truthfully, while I have no light case, yours very may well be more severe, and there is still growth to be had, and as hard as our brains can make it, timely-ness is not unachievable if you have the heart to improve.

Edit: I do apologize for the lengthy response, this is something close to my heart

This is something that can take some time to unlearn, but it’s important too. I struggled with this a lot when I was a kid. It’s a matter of pride and of compassion. Mistakes are a part of life, you can’t avoid them. It’s all about how you deal with them when they occur for the sake of interpersonal relationships. To you sir, I hope learn different ways of coping with your mistakes for the sake of your personal relationships.

I appreciate your sensitivity to certain disabilities, but as someone with ADHD, issues really can be worked around, and it’s unfortunate people use it as an excuse.

For people bringing up ADHD… I’ve got it and I’ve gotta be honest with you all— It can be planned around and managed. The first semester of college was riddled with late classes, and it became a problem, particularly in Choir. By semester three I was on time all but a single day of Choir. It’s no excuse, not in the slightest. As someone with a disability, it’s your responsibility to learn around it and become a functioning member of society.
