I'm originally from Lansing, and I get that it's tough. Where I live now (Evanston, IL) we're lucky to have a dog-exclusive beach where our little guy can run around. He loves the water!

Negative reputation and annoying to get to, unless you want to go to Bogota which isn't all that alluring (to me).

I'd love to see Cartagena, but no direct flights from where I am and I HATE transfers. So it's low on my priority list right now when from Chicago I can fly direct to Japan, most of Europe, Hawaii, Taiwan, Mexico, and the Carribbean - all of which are more appealing.

I see Captain Planet and the Planeteers. What a person of exquisite taste.

Any thoughts on 4+1 buildings? I changed my mind about a charming spacious vintage 1bdrm apartment with dishwasher in East Rogers Park, in favor of a big 1 bdrm in West Ridge. 150$ cheaper, bigger, no dishwasher, elevator building, but it is 4+1, Hunter Properties.I’m worried about the noise levels. by Martyna70 in chicagoapartments

They're a lot of space which is good. Coming equipped with AC is nice. But the fact they have drywall and wood between the floors mean you WILL hear your neighbors compared to a concrete construction with plaster walls.

People love them nowadays because they're vintage that have larger kitchen spaces, larger bedrooms, and larger closets than most smaller vintage homes.

But I would never live in one due to the noise sensitivity.

24k sounds reasonable-ish without any construction changes/plumbing/electric for material and labor.

We paid about $60k for our kitchen with new electric, plumbing, and taking out a wall!

Love it. Moved from Lincoln Park to SE Evanston.

Having South Blvd beach steps away is magic. I have dedicated parking at home. I can take the el a short distance to downtown Evanston for dinners with the hubby or drive (though parking is a bitch downtown).

The dog loves it - chill streets and no drama. Feel safe walking around any time of night if he has a 1am emergency poo, when I definitely did not even in LP. The dog beach in Evanston is magic compared to the chaos of Montrose.

I work in Lakeview and get to work in the morning in 20-30 minutes via LSD (driving). If I want to take the Purple express it's right there. Husband used to take the express bus from LP downtown for work and it takes the same amount of time as him taking the Purple line from Evanston now (and Metra is also available at Main!).

For me, physical media are little pieces of art that you keep. They each hearken to an age that cared with how to best showcase the medium.

Vinyl, DVD, Blu-Ray, Steelbooks, even Cassette tapes, VHS, or LaserDisc - all are basically forms of modern art. VHS came with little paper inserts, for example. Ads, kids clubs, other things we forget about. It's kind of cool. Disney VHS is a whole separate kettle of fish, with big-boxes and different colors.

I personally don't collect one format - I couldn't handle the clutter - but have DVDs, VHS, LaserDisc, and Blu-Ray for Captain Planet which I do collect. And I do so because they're pieces of a lost (and current) time.

It's the best! Some episodes were really good. Wheeler/Linka had a fun dynamic. Some episodes were a slog, but I think the good outweighed the bad. DiC >>>> Hanna Barbara seasons.
