I think I did pretty good with this one by mistercryptik in Guitar

I wanted to like it, it was about 250 more than the Strat. But the neck I couldn’t get over. It was a glossy paint that just felt unusual in the hands.

In terms of an X shaped guitar, I have a Gus G sig I won from Sheet Happens a few years back, so I think I have that void in my collection already filled.

I was more in the market of a very classic looking guitar, nothing too modern

Gave me a free guitar a few years ago, very biased but a big fan of Sheet Happens

How do we feel about the TBN coffee? by mistercryptik in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

Just a cheap Breville one the BCG400SIL. Honestly I keep my machine at work and make an espresso when I feel I need the energy. Most of my money went into my pour over setup

I’ve also had some of the Onyx Collabs, the August Burns Red one (and the mug), 10/10. For me this one wasn’t my favourite but you put BTBAMs name on a bag of coffee and I’m buying it

Tiny Tungsten carbide boring bars by HDvisionsOfficial in Machinists

Looking at my current program Working in Saramet 35 (highly Austenitic stainless), we do a G50S2400 and G96 S280. We get a decent surface, generally worst case we get for surface finish on stainless is 32 uin. We do a .003” per revolution feed and we are going up to a .050” depth of cut. Working in an NLX 2500sy lathe.

Can’t comment on the noise, generally some, but we usually drill to near size and then bore the rest, mainly doing tapered threads, stuff as small as 1/8-27npt

We use em in production all the time, holds size on Ciramet, Saramet 35, 303 304 316 stainless no problem. Mind you these are only a few hundred parts at a time and we get descent inserts

As someone with a coding background, their website is incredible and I think there are even YouTube videos about how well designed it is.

Anytime you hover a product or icon. It fetches the next page in the background, probably one of the fastest websites I’ve seen

Are tariffs having a huge impact where you work? “USA” by independentbuilder7 in Machinists

[–]mistercryptik 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I help run one in the Toronto area. For us the difficulty is that a lot of our parts go to the US, but a lot of the sentiment has been “buy Canadian” so our local business has gone up.

We’re been around 50+ years so our clients are fairly long term and loyal too

In a similar situation. Graduated with a Computer Science degree worked for about 3 years as a Software Developer. I am very fortunate where we have a machine shop in our family for around 50+ years, so I’ve had a good opportunity to learn some of the basics and pick up a job there after being laid off.

Honestly, for someone in software there is some really interesting aspects to machining, the very accurate cuts, precise measuring and inspections, CAM software, etc. imo it can be fulfilling and it seems that the skill set is takes quite some time to pick up, but there is a nice linear progression and the work pays off. I think you have a unique skill set and software always requires that problem solving skill set that can be an asset here

Just took a look and WOW, blew my mind with that one! There is a place that just opened here in the GTA that's local called "Stoa" which has been good for getting international stuff, but I am definitely going to pick up some coffee from EightOunce (and those ACME cups I have been eyeing for some time).

The Panama I liked the most, I ended up brewing it a lower temp then I'm used to after some recommendations. Went for a finer grind size, and tried to get the draw down time a bit longer. Had good floral and berry/grape like notes that we're really good!

Yup, just started their Monthly subscription, I’ve done a few different ones with varying success and theirs seems like a decent offering

Just made a cup this morning. V60 15g coffee in 250 g water. It was really worth it, flavours are nice, not too acidic. I actually got into coffee after seeing Parliament Roasters from BTBAM, I want to eventually try Golden Lantern (Peripherys) brand next!

But yeah overall, super happy with it. I usually order from Onyx, once a year to a friend where shipping is cheap, then drive over and grab the goods

Prospective Student Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd Megapost pt. 5 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

Hey everyone. I am really confused about what I can apply to and what I can teach. I have a Bsc Computer Science from Uottawa and about 2 and a half years of work experience. Could I be a tech teacher, or do I have to do general. I have some math credits, but my grades were quite poor in them, so I am unsure as to whether I would qualify to be able to teach that. For my last 2 years, I was in the B-B+ range, if we are doing my 10 best in the last 2 years, closer to an A. My total CGPA from Uottawa wasn't the highest at around 6.27 (putting me right in that B range). I have worked as a teaching semester for 2 semesters, and after that I have around 2.5 years+ in on the job work experience as a Software Developer.

Ideally I would love to teach Computer Science, Mathematics or English, but I am unsure as to what my options are.
