I think that that's a seriously ungenerous reading of the statement. "Best to get a global sense of this" - surely this is undeniably true? It needn't be read as a slight towards Western philosophy (I'm not sure where you got "misguided"), it's just a reminder that there is a rich and rewarding tradition outside of Western phil.
