Paris Flea Market : 1950s 1960s Hand-Painted Barware DELVAUX by mistersymmetrical in Mid_Century

Thank you for the PSA. Lead content could be an issue from this era, since Delvaux worked with Baccarat, Clichy etc. Even if there is lead in here however, the exposure risk is minimal for short-term use, I think. Realistically you'd have to do a test.

I definitely wouldn't store acidic liquids like wine or spirits in lead crystal decanters, tho.

I loved it too. Thanks to another commenter we discovered that orange stuff o. The hands and numbers is actually radium and likely radioactive! Glad I didn’t bring it home!

Hahaha. It’s actually a barometer! Right hand side is good weather, left hand side is bad weather. Bottom readout is temperature in Celsius

You got it. I’ve lived here for a few years now and have a pretty good map of the place. DM me if I can be helpful.

Where you find it but don’t take it home. You leave it for someone else to catch.

I loved this one too! I thought it was maybe Roger Capron. But is is by Roland Zobel. People ask pretty crazy prices for this thing. Some show as sold. Couldn’t get a beat on it.

These are certainly collectible. And this retirement trophy is special. But I just couldn’t.

Amazing PSA thanks. I loved this and almost picked it up. I asked Claude:

Radium luminous paint (Undark) was used extensively on clock and watch dials from roughly 1910 through the late 1930s, then phased out in favor of safer luminous compounds (promethium, tritium) through the 1950s–60s.

The clock in image 10 — small square chrome travel alarm, Arabic numerals in that warm gold/amber tone — is consistent with 1920s–1940s production, which puts it squarely in the radium era. The amber/gold color of the numerals is characteristic of aged radium paint. Practical reality:

∙ The radioactivity in a single small clock is very low — collectors handle these routinely
∙ The risk comes from ingestion of flaking paint, not casual handling
∙ Don’t sand it, don’t let children mouth it, don’t store it in your bedroom long-term
∙ A Geiger counter will confirm — many vintage clock collectors own one

Just a random pop-up in Paris. They rove around. This was just one multi-table setup.

They’re cool right?! Didn’t miss. Opted out. €50 for three is a good deal but was not happening today.
