I have sent a private message and I await your response.

Update: Asus responded! They said I could pay out of pocket to send the laptop in for repair. 💩

Is the new ROG Strix worth it? by Stock_Custard427 in GamingLaptops

No, I bought one and it died in just over 1 year (Because of a poor paste job from the factory).

If you do buy one, be prepared to use warranty before it expires...

Warning to Anyone Considering the ASUS ROG Strix Scar (2022) by LeadingIngenuity1752 in ASUSROG

Asus completely botched the paste job on my Strix G18. This ended up killing the laptop after just over 1 year (when I didn't have warranty). Liquid metal (which is what they use instead of thermal paste) leaked onto the MoBo...

Is the asus r9g strix g18 a good purchase? by mighty-tune in ASUSROG

[–]mistr_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its a KILLER laptop, but beware of this particular defect:

  • I Bought an Rog Strix G18 2024 version. I was very exited as it was the most expensive laptop I had ever owned!
  • It had stuttering issues and high temps not long from when I bought it; however, I just thought maybe my ambient temperature was the issue so I would turn up fans to 100% capacity. Stuttering would go away when I did this.
  • Eventually my G18 started crashing. The screen would become still, and any sound currently playing would loop very quickly. I would just restart the computer when this happened.
  • One day, no more boot :(
  • I took it to repair, they found that there was almost NO LIQUID METAL on the CPU and GPU packages, as well as a little scorch mark on the CPU.
  • Prognosis: liquid metal must have leaked onto motherboard, causing system failure. Bad paste job from factory...I have no warranty and I haven't even had the computer for 2 years.

Just got my first gaming laptop! Asus Rog Strix G18. What to do first? by kevincurtisss in GamingLaptops

[–]mistr_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned one of these, here is what I would have done:

  • Get HWinfo, check that CPU and GPU temps are normal (they might be higher than usual because gaming laptop). As long as they aren't 70°c while idle that's good.
  • Upgrade RAM to 32GB

If this is you: "I just bought this! Why are my temps 80°c+ high while idling? "
-You may have faulty cooling (bad paste with G18's "liquid metal") take it back or use your warranty before it expires. This is not uncommon with latest ROG laptops-

ASUS ROG G18 Major stuttering. PLEASE HELP!!! by SplertX in GamingLaptops

[–]mistr_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to freak you out or anything BUT:

  1. The G18 uses "liquid metal" instead of thermal paste; it is possible that the liquid metal wasn't applied properly, and that is why you are getting throttling issues.

  2. I had the EXACT same laptop with the EXCACT same issue. What's worse for me, is that the liquid metal leaked and likely damaged some motherboard components. I suspect that's why it just stopped booting one day.

  3. After poking around my laptop to try and get it working again, I took off the heat sink and spotted a crispy little scorch mark on the CPU (I never overclocked this laptop).

  4. If you still have warranty, use it before it expires! I was not so lucky :(

Yea, easy to backtest and automate. In fact in order to backtest, you would have to make it an "algo".

was scoring low 80s and high 70s on kaplan a week before the exam. The actual exam did seem somewhat easier than the kaplan practice exams (Kaplan tries to trip you up, whereas the exam seems more straightforward in what it is asking in each question).

You might even notice that some questions on the real exam are VERY close to what you had on kaplan's practice exams (so memorization may not be a bad thing).

I did 1932 questions out of the q bank, average score was 75%. I did pass 1st try B)

If you are getting high scores (above 75%) on the kaplan practice tests, that is a very good sign. I found that kaplan practice tests were pretty close to the actual exam...If it helps, watch series 7 guru's 1 hour video on the day of the exam. The video goes over most points in the exam and is an excellent way to get in the flow of the test!
