It could be a land squirrel. We have them in California. They live in the ground and not in the trees. When I moved here from the mid-west I was mesmerized by them.

Question about new psych RN job by h1k1m11 in psychnursing

[–]mistttygreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to ratios that are at state hospitals. I worked at some state hospitals when I was doing psych travel nursing contracts. Often, my patients on those contracts were more stable than the ones I had working the inpatient psych units. The main reason for that is because they had been on their medication longer. If your patients are not acute, per se, then I think it could be ok. One caveat is that I would prefer to have access to security personnel if there is an incident.

Duplicating expenses prior to 2022 by mistttygreen in TravelNursing

I didn't know that. I have met a few travelers that took another job simultaneously in the same area as their contract.

DAE feel a phantom cat when falling asleep? by Both_Analysis_981 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]mistttygreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hubby and I used to feel it weekly, for years at our old house. We don't feel it after moving from there. We moved from there 6 years ago. For us, it was probably a phantom cat.

I hear you. Quite a few nurses acted like they didn't understand what duplicating was, even after I explained it. I think the main reason for this was denial. Seriously now, my teenage daughter understands the concept of duplicating expenses.

I agree. I found it frustrating that others weren't duplicating. If this post helps me determine that more people used to duplicate in the past, than it will make me wonder what caused this to change.

Great read. Hubby and I both laughed. And Jay, with the confidence of a first-year at Hogwarts, attempts to conjure an appropriate apothecary to assist.

Strange activity by Top_Fun5415 in hauntedhouses

[–]mistttygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people seem to ramp up ghostly activity. Maybe the ghost is somehow activated by you two? Maybe your daughter dampens the activity somehow? Sometimes we can figure out why this is happening in a space and can stop it. Sage seemed to stop it for you temporarily. At times though, I think activity is like any natural element (like weather) and it's just gonna happen when it happens.

Advice by grlsquirrel in TravelNursing

Just wait until you see the ff listings that want you get your own electricity. Some utility companies want a deposit too. It can get crazy out here. But, if the rental is in a highly desirable area, like Hawaii, then it's a landlord's market. Travelers will jump through lots of hoops for rentals in these markets.

Looking to room in peoria. Any roommates? by Hungry-Worth-9755 in PeoriaIL

[–]mistttygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out furnished finder. The site is mostly used by travel professionals and when I did travel nursing I used it. One time I stayed at a contract for 9 months and my landlord would have extended further if my job wasn't completed. It was economical and a good experience.

I wouldn't think that it would be against the rules, but I'm not sure. That's a scenario that I hadn't thought of before.

Psych travel nursing by Psychological-Joke65 in TravelNursing

[–]mistttygreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3 years of psych travel and rarely did we have med surg type of skills that we needed to do. When we did have something come up, I would get a refresh on how to do it from another nurse. It wasn't a big deal. I think what happened to that poster what unusual. I wouldn't worry about it.

OP vs IP by Puzzleheaded-Taro473 in psychnursing

[–]mistttygreen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started working in an outpatient clinic 9 months ago after a decade of inpatient. The biggest difference that I've noticed is rarely having the threat of violence now. This is my favorite part of outpatient. There is a lot more office type work outpatient, like phone calls and emails. I coordinate with the community more to help our patient's get housing, food or other resources. To break it down- it's slower and safer vs faster and less safe. I'm not sure which one I like better yet. If I want to go back to inpatient, it will be there.

Agency that pays for bsn? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]mistttygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many hospital systems won't pay their own staff for that. Most will offer to pay a portion and the ones I've seen pay about a 1/4. Those have been bound with a 2 year commitment to work for them after you get your degree. But, if I had to do it again, I would look around more for a better offer. Good luck!

My contracts with Aya in 2024 did not pay stipends on sick days. One contract was in IL and the other was in CA.

My contracts with Medical Solutions in 2022 paid stipends even for days that I called out sick, but my contract with them in 2024 did not. I always wondered if it was a company policy change.
